H23A1 is what it should be. Look on your engine where it meets the tranny, on the front side, bout half way down, It should be stamped on a flat spot there.

As always Intake system and Exhaust for starters, this will help open up the engine. Then it depends on how deep your wallet is. Also think about what route you wish to take, NA or Forced Induction (Turbo, Etc.).

stock 5speed Si will be around 15.7

An AEM Cold Air Intake and a Header and Exhaust is a good start.

http://www.modacar.com seems to have decent price's

Cai, header, exhaust, pullys and a intake manifold would be a good start thats 10-25 WHP depending on which brands you go choose.

You wont find an intake manifold for your H23 that's not for turbo or custom, and DC sports is the only decent header that I know of for it.....And pulleys don't do ****, IMO.... just take out the AC and power steering,.....

I just removed the 2 lines from the pump and drained a bunch of fluid out and looped them together. Nobody recommends actually draning the rack, you need to leave some in there, but not nearly as much fluid.

The PS pulley and belt is on it's own drive so you can just take the PS belt off. The A/C being gone you need a smaller belt to drive the alternator and I'm not sure what that is. it may be a 36.5"

There is no affordable manual rack option.

If this is going to be a daily driver, I would recommend leaving the PS in the car. The .05 of a second that it might save you at the strip wouldn't be worth it...IMO.

Shedding the A/C would be okay, but again...if it's a daily, the A/C system only weighs, what...30 lbs?

Since it's a daily beater, I really don't see the point of taking out the creature comforts just to save you 30 lbs, and a tenth at the most on the strip.

Now, changing out the I/H/E, throttle body, ECU, and stuff of the like...I can see doing, as you still have the ease and comfort while driving.

you are right about the i/h/e.

Skunk2 makes ecu's BUT I don't know if they make one for the 4th gen or something.

Intake - ebay one is more than enough, just buy a k&n filter and you are good to go.

Headers - fair choice on that dc, don't expect much of course.

Exhaust - Apexi N1 if you don't mind the loud factor and it is not restrictive, BUT i recommend getting custom 2.5" pipes for it. Better flow, but then you would have to do some good mods to the engine to make up for the rest of the power you are getting.

If it's a daily driver i say screw it and dont waste money on the motor. Buy some rims,a nice suspension and spend the rest of the money on your Z.

i guess i shouldnt have used the words daily driver...he he....i meant driving this while the z is in the shop and driving the z while the lude is in the shop...lol....ill end up dumping lots into the lude just as i have in the z....

sounds like theh23 i maybe not worth building? should i do a swap w the motor and tranny?....ive got a little time as the 350z doesnt go into the shop til winter....so i got a little time to do something with the prelude.....lol

NAUJCDL

what you mean fair choice with the header? and dont expect much?
is there a better header or is the header on the lude about like on the z not much gains?

i can send the dc sports header back if need be and replace it w something else....i run the parts dept at my nissan store here in va ...we do returns to vendors all the time

im sorry for all the newbe questions guys
but i wouldnt even know what to do a search on as i am really that stupid when it comes to hondas....lol

personally, the dc headers are junk. hence why im selling mine and getting some prospeed headers with a merge collector. Get something custom made if at all possible. its a little expensive, but well worth it in terms of quality and power output.

the h23 plenty of potential, just not much in the all motor catagory
the dc header isn't the best, but it's about the best you're gonna get
with the h23 engine, most of the good headers are made for the
h22 (vtec) engine. If you want to make you're ride considerably faster
without doing an engine swap i suggest running nitrous. You should have
a leakdown and compression test done on your motor too see how
good of shape it is in b4 you run nitrous though.
if you are considering turboing it, then you should hold off on the header
b/c you'll need an exhaust manifold for it anyway

a greddy header is the way to go.

There are always the usual upgrades: Cold air intake 2.5" exhaust, and either high-flow cat or testpipe depending on budget/concern for nature. If you really don't want to bolt in 180 hp to the wheels $1500 JDM h22 swap, then I would go with -2cc H22 pistons, mild DIY port and polish (since you got it apart), Crower h23 cams/springs/retainers and maybe some Eagle rods, then balance the whole recipricating/rotating assembly to rev the **** out of it.

But that might not be that cheap in the long run.

just my $.02

that's pretty good compression there but you still might want to
do a leakdown test on it to be on the safe side.

as for hitting the rev limiter a 6500, first things first,
make sure you have enough oil in you car and go from there.
