pic request: f-1 style shifter on automatic NSX
If you are talking about paddle shifters behind the steering wheel, you are thinking of the wrong car. See the BMW M3 w/ the SMG tranny, among others.
Actually the auto versions have a "kinda" paddle shifter. I've read about it but have never actually seen it. Senna actually prefered this tranny to the manual (I think he got lazy
).

IMHO, i don't think Honda should have ever made the NSX w/ an automatic transmission. To each their own though.

well, i think i remember reading honda's reasoning behind it. they made an auto version available to please a broader spectrum of customers. ex: lazy pple, women, etc. but the main problem with the ss tranny's that honda offers'.. its really just an automatic tranny that you can shift. but with technology these days, ex: smg from bmw and dsg from audi. which are both really manual trannsmission without a clutch. which btw, were also prefferred by "former racers" to be used on the track. i think they said "i prefer the auto cause i can focus more on the track, instead of what gear to select."

SportShift was added to automatic tranmission NSXs starting in 1995. Check the NSX FAQ sticky in this forum. If you want to see pictures, look on Acura's site.

I have yet to see a manual car driver that can shift in 30 miliseconds.
SMG, DSG, etc. is the wave of the future.
I won't lie, I still love rowing through the gears of a manual box but nothing compares to the Manu-matic trannies of the future.

I had the opportunity to drive a 530i w/ SMG as part of BMW's support of the Susan B. Koman Foundation's breast cancer "drive." A buddy mentioned it and being one who loves ***** and cars, who was I to say no. My .02? I loved it. It took a bit to get used to but I had a blast changing gears.
iDrive is a way different story.
