Default DSS Axles = not recommended for 165mph.

Was racing a Z06..... No lectures I dont want to hear it.

EDIT: I wanted to add... I do not mean this post to talk **** about DSS... these axles are awesome and I love them. I am not mad at DSS... I shouldnt have made the topic that. I am very happy with the axles... just not too happy with the axle boot... who the **** goes that fast in a civic anyway. DSS

well.. no i didnt really win.

I was running 13 psi of boost. The car did 415fwhp at 15 or so. So 13 psi should have me at around 350fwhp.

I was going slow on the tollway hoping something fast would catch up so I could race... he came up next to me, and I gave it some boost and he acted uninterested and pulled behind me.

a few minutes later he caught me off gaurd with a downshift, I downshifted and by the time I hit boost he was about 2 cars ahead of me.

once I hit boost, he wasnt going anywhere. I couldnt reel him in... but he wasnt getting away at all.

The only reason I know me speed is because of the speed peak hold in the power meter ID... obviously my gauge cluster doesnt go that high... but the blitz peak is just chillen at "165"

fastest I ever gone. Car still had more in it, would have like to have seen 170 for bragging rights... but 165 is stupid enough.

Wish I had a scramble boost button so I could have pushed that **** and reeled him in.

It was a very fast car, I found him on a Z06 forum and I can see that he has atleast intake, exhaust, headers... I emailed him to ask if he had anything else... we will see.

props to the Z06, I figured I would have smoked him even at only 13 psi.

And yea what happend was after the race we could smell axle grease... I pull over at a gas station and look under, and thats what I saw. The boot exploded from centrifigal force apparently. Hopefully frank at DSS will warrenty that **** for me... I mean I know that no one intended even a mod'd civic to go that fast... but come on... after all it is a RACING axle.

Thanks

Back in November '01 I had a ball joint snap on me in my 91 Crx at 120 mph when I was racing a ram air Trans Am on the street - And yes I won, (three times in a row from traffic lights).

I was very lucky - I only skidded 400 feet and put a whole in a wall, slid along it for 100 feet finally knocking over a streetlight backwards.
I received over 40 stitches on my head along with a fractured skull - car was toast so was the engine block, but my B16 head still lives in another 12 second car today.

No lecture about racing here, just relating with a similar experience.
I have the 'after' pics of the car, if anyone shows interest in seeing them I will post them up, (its the Crx in my sig).

If you mean my EK, it was a '94 JDM h22a withe the lsd trans, pushing 8 lbs of boost. (Rev-Hard stage 2C turbo kit modded to fit). Never dynoed so I can't even guess on hp level.

That was my 6th pass on 24.5" slicks. My times went like this, (I can post these if needed):

12.9 @ 107
12.9 @ 108
12.9 @ 109
12.8 @ 107
12.8 @ 108
12.7 @ 107

..Then I sold her.

Sorry about the thread jack, that was not meant.

What tranny were you doing this in? I was stationed in Germany(autobahn) and my B18C1 would redline 5th somewhere in the neighborhood of 160+. Stock axles, and I never had a problem. I've done this many times. I love highspeed runs, but it's definately not safe state-side with people just sitting in the left lane.

Heh, tsk tsk Charles... oh wait you asked people not to do that....

What is with people and the tollway though? Heavy traffic and about a mile past a northbound toll, i see a car waiting to U-turn into traffic from sbound to nbound... I pass I see them pull the U-turn then catch up and pace me at 80. 2 kids in what looked like an slk 2 seater kompressor (sound clue on the last part). After they paced me for a mile, reving on me and the usual they just flicked me off and started weaving through traffic at 100+. I was so offended :~(

I just hope your fun was a hell of a lot less crowded, because Darwin is way to fond of traffic weavers
