can't you just follow the number 1 plug wire to that point on the cap and put it there....fine tune it later?

Might be some help here
http://www.1stgencivic.com/index2.html

H-T needs a First gen forum.

May not be a lot of members now with them, but if H-T got a 1st gen forum, owners would flock here.

Yes I know this. Which is why I wonder, he posted in here.

Would he assume any of us knew anything about CVCC's? Huh, I for one, dont.

uhh...doesn't common sense apply here....if it has a cam, a distributor, wires and a rotor, then it would have to line up just like most do.....the number one wire (closest to the cam gear side) would lead you to the number one place on the cap where the metal part of the rotor (contact) would want to be........

now if for some reasons they aren't like that, then completely disregard EVERYTHING i've typed like an idiot........i completely can't remember the one and only engine i've seen like that lol
good luck

i'm sure the same logic applies, but you can always pull the number one spark plug to make sure it's at BTDC by putting an extension or something in the hole and manually turning the motor.....to make sure all the marks are right (if there are any) because i've had cars that used plastic shrouds with pointers that got broken.........but if that looks to be about right still (right before the piston is all the way up and the rotor is on the #1 wire) then i don't know....may not be related to the timing....maybe you can bump the distributor around toward the advanced side to get it a bit more "in time" too....does it drag a bit then start, or what....could mean the timing needs to be advanced
