Good all season tire?
I am heading for Germany in a couple of months and need some info on some good all season tires. I've been told that if you are involved in a accident in Germany with summer tires on during the winter your insurance will not pay up. Same thing if you are traveling at a high rate of speed with winter tires during the summer. So I am thinking all season. I looked at the Dunlop SP5000, they seem like they might be good. Those are the only tires I have noticed with sipes in them.
Also on aftermarket brake pads how much of a difference has anyone noted from stock. I thought about getting some Hawk or Endless pads or staying OEM.
I would appreciate any input. Oh about the tires I live in the South and when it rains I don't drive, so all I have every used were Potenza RE010 and Falken Azenis.

I used those on my ITR in its earlier years when it was a commuter.
The SP5000 is a nice all season tyre that makes about the compromise you'd think it'd make to handle the all season, all weather conditions.
IMHO, the 215-50-15 size that I used is a little too wide for the OEM wheels.

I too have used the Dunlop SP5000 before, although on my old civic coupe. Good all season tire, good grip and wet traction... decent in light snow but anything over 2-3 inches you may have some problems. Tire was a 205/50/15 on a 15x7 rim.

I know the inside news of tire manufacturing industry. The new Assurance line of tires is Goodyear's latest gamble to bring back their fame and put up against their long-lost market segment of high performance all-season tires for passenger cars.
I do not know if the tire is great or not since they just released on to the market. But I can tell you that Goodyear puts all its effort into it. Their Eagle series is already an oustanding wet/dry tire that most swear by it on this forum. I hope their Assurance tires do well so I can make more deals with them

Tell that to alot of R owners out there, Not me.
There are plenty that don't care or can't tell the difference.
I remember clearly a guy in a PY that I met on another board, showed to a local autocross a few years back. We noticed his tires were Michecrap XGTV4's. He was spinning and screaching all over and didn't think twice about it, (yes a novice but that's besides the point).
When rodney and I introduced ourselves we mentioned the tires and he said when his stock RE010's ran out his dealership replaced them with these and charged him up the ***. They claimed they couldn't get the RE010's for him because they were discontinued
No, I never got the name of the dealership.
At any rate we kinda hinted and asked about the tires (me wholeheartedly knowing and hating these tires), and he replied that he didn't really notice a difference just that they were more audible.
Although many of us are performance oriented in some way, some track and others autocross. There are still many out there that bought the car for all the wrong reasons in the enthusiasts mind. Which doesn't mean these owners are truely wrong, they just did what they wanted to.
I don't agree with them but I don't think they don't deserve the car. To me it's just a shame and I try to go out of my way to introduce them to motorsports beginning with autocross.
There are many people out there Still that just can't tell or don't know what a different tire with a different compound or stiffer sidewall will provide.

Some people just enjoy their car, and dont need to be into autocross or track days. All season tires are a comprimise, sure, but they provide all the dry grip you'd need on the street and let you drive the car nearly year-round.

you live in the south, you should be fine with summer tires. i use summer tires all year long, except for when it snows.

speak for yourself buddy. IMO, allseasons suck in the dry, and aren't really that good in the snow either.
Why go through the hassle of owning a car that has no sound deadening, cruise control, sunroof, etc. all in the name of performance, and then slap all season tires on it? Where is that damn hammer icon anyway???
Some people just don't know any better, and that's F'n sad in my opinion...

I dont think they suck. They're quiet and you dont have to worry about parking your car if it rains or if the temps drop suddenly.

Why is it sad? No one said that owning a ITR requires a course in performance driving....

Your right, to each his own. I mean, hell, some people put 18" blings on thier ITR... so whatever.
But:
"Why is it sad? No one said that owning a ITR requires a course in performance driving.... "
It's sad that people don't understand how much of a huge difference tires make in the handling and feel of the car, even in daily driving... I made the switch to summer tires and winter snows when I bought the ITR, and I'm never going back to all seasons - they are mediocre at everything.
It's kindof like having one pair of shoes for the whole year - sure you can get by with them, but sandels work a whole lot better when it's 100 degrees out, and I'd rather have boots in the snow

So what?
More tires is either an extra set of wheels or buying an extra set of tires and having them mounted/balanced twice a year. Maybe they dont have the space to store a set of wheels/tires or its just not important for them to spend the time to mess with it.
Why is it sad if someone just wants a decent set of tires that will get them through 2-3 years of driving? Nothing wrong with having an ITR for that, if thats what you want.

Im with you on this one. All seasons absolutely suck. Lucky for me, halfway through this past winter one of my all seasons got a bad flat and was ruined, so I slapped snows on. I'll NEVER go back to all seasons during the winter. I have always run good performance tires in the summer, but I now learned that snows are just as awesome in the winter as high performance tires are in the summer
All seasons are the compromise tire, that performs just okay (not great) in all weather

There's a huge difference between the snows on my ITR and the all seasons on my accord last winter.... same as the Azenis on my ITR and the all seasons.
I never got stuck in my accord in the winter though.... and they dont sound like monster truck tires like the Azenis.
