rotated tires and its going "gung gung gung"
i heard a slight gung sound once in awhile so i decided to rotate my tires. (civic98ex coupe).....anyway, pulled out the tires and were stuck in really tight and i ended up bending the steel disc behind the rotor. i think that thing just protects the inner side from getting more dirty. anyway, then i hear a clinging sound so i bent it back so it wouldnt make any more sound, but now i hear more of the gung gung gung sound and its more prominent. any suggestions?.......i rotated the two front directly to the back and the back to the front kris kross.........help!
what kind of tires are they? is the tread pattern designed in a specific way? If they specifically run in one direction, i would kris kross it. just change from front to rear vice versa. Also, does the "gung" sound like metal or just something soft?
it sounds soft.....before it was metal and solved that, but now its just like as if it sounded like it was a flat. i put the correct air pressure into the tires as well. its the stock civic 98 coupe wheels. the 14" steels.
rotate front to back, and back to front, keep the left tires on the left and the rights on the right.
finger tite in the air
and tighten on the ground
torque each lug to 80lb/ft

if your tires are directional, you shouldn't kris kros it. the proper way of rotating directional tires is front to rear only. left front to left rear and so on...i think the sound is from your tires.
More than likely you let the tires go to long without rotating them and now they are what is called scoulped(sp). Do your tires sound like a big 4X4 truck tire sounds? If so just rotate them like you did and give them about 25-50 miles and that should work.

It's a wear issue if everything else is okay. I rotated my BS RE730's and now one of them sounds like a truck tread.

I've got the same exact thing on mine, Gary. I just rotated mine recently, and I sound like I have mud terrain tires. Oh well. Just an added harmonic.
Must be the wear - drive wheels accelerate tread leading edge wear, braking wheels the trailing edge, so on rotation they're putting up a fuss until broken back in.
