Default Y8 into 92 CX

OK so the other day I am reading on my local forums and someone posts up this 92 CX with a full Y8 swap and some other goodies, asking 900 dollars

I call the guy go over there and ended up buying it but it does have some quirks I'd like to fix

I tried searching but havent found much info as far as swapping full Y8's into an EG but I know they used the stock CX wiring harness, so therefore a few sensors arent hooked up and its causing:

1. Idle is bouncing up and down while engine is cold
2. VTEC isnt even wired up (doesnt help they are running stock P05)
3. CEL on (I havent had time to check codes-maybe sunday)
4. Car wont rev past like 4500 or so (Cant tell, the car has stock CX cluster w/out tach)

I should be able to fix everything but I need to know if I can use a Z6 harness and swap that out with the CX harness or if I have to get a Y8 harness

Any other things you guys can recommend I would appreciate

the Y8 has a 4 wire o2 sensor while the cx has a one wire, youll need an obd1 p28 to run the motor correctly. convert the motor to obd1 (dizzy, alternator, injectors). a few of the sensors wont need to be connected while running obd1. the CEL's youre throwing are probly the vtec solenoid and o2 sensor. i did this swap a few months ago into my 93 cx and it runs awesome. i belive that all 92 hatches came prewired for vtec n e ways.

Did you use a different wiring harnes or did you use the CX wiring harness?

Also

Any reason why I need to change the alternator and stuff like that?

The car is not having any problems running those items, or will the only problems I have be a CEL?

you need to change those items if youre going to convert the motor to obd1. i used the stock cx harness because money was short at the time.

i got a y8 in my vx
but the vx is vtec economy i used the stock harness. u need to get a p28 ecu 92-95 ex or si civics. get 1 of them and im not sure about your harness since a cx isnt vtec. u might just have to rewire stuff. when i did my swap i got all my info from d-series.org they seem to know alot more when it comes to sohc swaps . like they told my everything exactly what to swap and switch and what i had to convert. check it out.. theyll know..

you can use your stock wiring harness, all you need to add is 4 wire 02 sensor, and two wires for vtec, really easy. Search you will find how to. Also since your car runs like ****, what usually fixes it is switching map and TPS sensor plugs, after that there are 2 plugs on the back of intake matifold that are the same too. First pull your codes and tell us.

Pulled the codes today and I got:

Code 10-Intake Air Temp
Code 14-IAC

I also reset the ecu and installed the EX cluster and I am no longer getting the really low rev limiter, now I am just getting the stock CX rev limiter of like 6200 or something

replace the iac sensor.
and your throwing a 10 because i dont think the Y8's have that sensor on the manifold. so yours is prolly just sitting there unpluged. im using a z6 mani so it has all sensors that my harness has.

Those two sensors use exactly the same plugs (don't replace everything), just switch up the plugs it will get rid of CEL (two dark grey plugs on the back of intake matifold). Then when you put on p28 ECU you will need to wire up vtec and 4wire 02 sensor.

If your car is a '92 its already prewired for VTEC to the shock tower.

I'll agree

For as crappy as it looks right now it is a heck of a deal

BTW

I found these two plugs chilling earlier. I take it one is to the old alternator, but what is the other one for?

I also need to clear this up

I am reading several conflicting posts about what 02 sensor I need

The car came with an aftermarket header with a 1 wire 02 sensor, do I need the 4 wire?

Here are some pics of the front of the car

I did all the work today

Pulled the headlight, fender, broken corner, and hood

Fixed the headlight and some other crap, waiting on straigtening the body till I get a fender (anyone have one?)

One of those two "mystery" plugs could be for the intake air temp. sensor. The cx has it in the drivers side of the intake manifold. The y8 has it in the intake arm before the throttle body.

Ok the white one should plug into the the white plug that's supposed to built in the intake matifold (look around for it on z6 it's on the drivers side towards the firewall). Also the plug that's laying around should hook up to this thing that has a cap over it, and has one house going from intake matifold (vacume) and the second to the charcoal canister (You might have to get that and tap into the intake matifold)

BTW your car doesn't look like CX since it got AC and all.

Well I wonder what model it could be then because I had a 94 CX one time and it didnt come with a tach, ,and I own a 93 DX hatch right now and it came with a tach. This one didnt come stock with a tach

I also have a friend with a CX who's doesnt have AC

Interested huh?

I believe you need a 4 wire.

And AC came as an option on CX's. I've got a 93 and it has AC. They are just hard to find with ac.

Update

I am not throwing any O2 codes, but I'll still go ahead and probably buy the 4 wire. I picked up the P28 ecu today, and the guy had an EX/Si harness just sitting there so i bought it for 15 bucks!

I think instead of doing some ghetto wiring I should just swap out the wiring harnesses? What do you guys think?
