the term "driver" is a synonym for "speaker" They are the same thing. But a driver doesn't include an enclosure. Generally, the term is used in reference to midranges, midbasses, compression drivers - not as much with subs and with tweeters (IMO)

So if you were to walk over to a component set, and pick up just one midbass - then you would have a driver in your hand.

So, it's very important - hope that helps

The cone is the part of the speaker that actually moves. Basket material can be anything IMO, as long as it is rigid and non-resonant.

Yeah man I know what you are talking about, I was actually thinking about getting those for my comp. Since my computer is my primary home stereo, but I thought it was just way too expensive to pay somewhere around $200 for just a 2.1 speaker package. So I decided to go with Altec Lansing's 251 which is a 5.1 surround system for about $100, I bought it last summer and I have no regrets. Combine either of those speakers with a good sound card (Creative Soundblaster Audigy 2 series or Turtle Beach Santa Cruz) and you will be golden. BTW I think those speakers you got right there are pretty nice, how do they sound? I know those range for about $80 for just a 2.1 system right so I'm assuming they sound pretty good?

yea these speakers are pretty neat for what they are. if you look at how big the 3 little speakers are, you'd notice they're each about the size of a tweeter. and thats about exactly wat they do. the highs are SPARKLING clear. but theres little midrange if any. the sub kinda makes up for it, but its mostly for lows. so i really like this system for songs that aren't rock intensive.

it retails for 100 bucks but i got it for around 75ish. i figured i'm at my desk most of the time and i might as well have decent sounds.

oh and in response to the putting these suckers in the car. i doubt they'd sound as good because car speakers are designed to play over road noise and what not, you have to be pretty quiet around these suckers to enjoy the sound they produce
