machine shop called "autoshop" from orlando
just wondering if anyone else has had problems with this machine shop. i droppped of my block about a month and a half ago so they could hot tank it , balance, check clearences and put together the short block. so i picked it up yesterday and they charged me $340 over the original amount specified. not only that the block still had visible dirt. looks like instead of hot tankin it he took a wire brush to it.
over all it made me distrust this shop and their work. it really isnt a money issue. i gladly would have paid if that was what we had agreed upon but it wasnt.

**** that i'd be pissed
i've never heard of that place, i haven't had any machine work done personally, but you should go see the guys at Infinite Auto on old winter garden road 4072968188, they'll know where to get good work done - tell them Pete sent you

Similar thing happened to my dad when he took his SBC 327 in to a local shop. He had the reciept/contract though so he just took them to small claims.
If you have an agreed upon price before the work was completed (and you have proof) they cant charge you extra. Even if they ended up having to do extra work on it for some reason if you didn't approve the extra charges you can't be held liable.
However, I am trying to think back to my Law101 classes here...if you already paid the extra money I think you might be stuck since that was "acceptance" of the extra charges or something. You would definately want to ask a lawyer type about that one though
Either way small claims is cheap and you might get your money back...and more importantly bring their business practices out in the open.

Dang thats expensive. I paid 180$ for my block work at a Machine shop. They Cleaned the Block,Notch it,Installed Block Guard,Honed cilinders and decked it(it was slightli off specs/bent) and re surfaced flywheel.
im gonna leave it at that. they lost a good customer for 300 bucks not to mention people that i would have sent over there. goes to show how some people do business. in the long run doing so will cost them more than what ever extra they make out of a deal like that.
