Shop did not put on my shock dust covers on
Hey guys, I just had my shock hats moved over to my H&R/KYB AGX shocks and I just noticed that the mechanic did not put on the dist covers that cover the metal rod. Is it ok to run them without this cover?
Man, I am soooo pissed right now. I have yet to find a good shop that does good work. EVERY single one half asses their work!!

Andy, honestly the worst thing is to take your car to a shop to install suspension.
I am sorry for what happened, but i would have done it for you.
Good luck..
And yes you do need those boot dust cover!!!
Suing time my friend!!!

Andy, from what I remember, you can't keep the stock dust covers on with the AGX's, I could be wrong, its been a few years..
I never used them...

Are you guys talking about those thin metal sleeves that go over the shocks? When i installed my Konis i didnt put them in. And ive had no problems at all. In the instructions all koni suggest is you cut them a little if your gonna use em.
Ok, thanks for the help. I am not as upset now. However, he did forget to give me back one of the dust shields. Oh well, I will go back and get it.
Can anyone confirm that the dust shields are not needed??
Thanks!!

Yeah, the stock dust shields fit right on the AGX's.
Not the end of the world if you don't have them on - but your shocks might not last as long. I'd go back & get them to redo it, if you dare.

they keep debris from getting on the shaft & damaging the seal.
Some struts, such as koni, require the hole in the top to be enlarged slightly for them to fit over the shaft. Not sure if thats the case w/ the KYB's, but if so, that would explain why they left them off.

ah, I know, they wouldn't work if you put coilover sleeves on the AGX shocks.. They should fit fine if you have just a shock/spring setup, and not an adjustable sleeve setup... The dust covers will actually contact the sleeves.. I would have them put them back on then..
Ok, I got them installed a few minutes ago. I am friends with a friend of the owner so he was really cool but the guy who did the work was all mad. He made me feel like I was the one who made the mistake.
Man, i am so pissed. I can't wait until I am done modding my car. It seems like it is more of a hassle than it's worth. That's why i try and do as much work on my own car as I can.
Anyway, thanks for the help guys. I am glad I went back. I want my car done right the first time.

You should have put them on yourself. It's not very difficult at all. </TD></TR></TABLE>
Actually, I tried. I didn't have the correct sized allen wrench to hold the top secure and Pepboys gave me the wrong spring compressor. My car was sitting in my friend's garage too and his car is in mybrother's garage. lol I have to work in the morning tomorrow too.
haha, I had a weird situation. So it was best to pay someone to get it done with.
If i had my own garage and a good set of tool, I have NO PROBLEM doing the work myself.
Now I have to start the rears Sunday. That is going to be a WHOLE new adventure in itself.
