01 CBR 600.....1-2 SHIFT SOMETIMES HARD TO GET IN!!!!!!
Sometimes when under a full throttle high rpm 1-2 shift, my bike pops in to nuetral, instead of second...I usually have to kick it up kind of hard to get it to pop into second....I was just wondering if anyone else has expierenced this, or is there something I could try to do to fix this?????The bike is in perfect condition with 5,000 miles..........Any ideas/suggestions????????????????????????????
Thanks
Thanks
I don't now about the newer ones but the F2's and F3's are notorious for missing second gear. Is it only when you are trying to shift fast?
On my F2 I had this problem so I bought a shift kit that is a stiffer spring and better detent arm with a roller bearing. (the piece that sits on the offset looking sprocket behind the clutch).
It was a little hard to get used to at first because the shifter was a lot firmer and I was not used to pulling up so hard but after a couple of days I got used to it and it felt normal and the problem was practically eliminated.
Hope this helps.

I just got my F3 like 2 weeks ago and am realizing the same thing...I am just extra careful and pull up a bit harder to make sure it gets into second.
Thanks guys.....Yes, this only happens when shifting in the higher rpms, and I am using the cluch to shift by the way......It just seems like I have to really kick up the clutch lever kind of hard to get it in second....
Here is an example of what I am talking about.

preload the shifter prior to unloading the power and completing the shift. Also mentally leave your foot up instead of visualizing a "flick".

that would work, it would defently slow down my shift times but yeh, damn used bikes

You're technically going through an extra gear to get into 2nd, so you have to lift slightly higher. You can change your shifter angle so it points down slightly. Also check to make sure your chain isn't too tight.
I agree with 99lspwr you just need to shift with a purpose. If I'm riding with shoes on I have had this happen but when I am wearing boots it doesn't happen I think because the boots are stiffer so the shifter gets a soild shift unlike the softer shoe.
Also try shifting without the clutch. Just when your on it hard and are about to shift, blip the throttle and shift at the same time. My ZX10 never goes into neutral if I clutchless shift. Even if I'm trying.
This is due to you not shifting the bike firmly into second. Preloading the shifter works best like someone above said. I miss every once in a while trying to shift slowly and lightly when i'm not accellerating hard... just practice proper form and it willl stop
uhhhh..

Yeah, I like using the clutch to shift in any motorized vehicle, wheather it is a car,bike,whatever...I dont like tearing up trannys...Its not worth the extra split second you get by not using the clutch...
Like everyone said... Dont worry about it, it is common, did it on both my F2 and F3.
But if it is really bad, where it pops out of gear while under heavy acceleration you may need a rebuild. Unless that shift kit thing would do the trick.

Cool, thanks....It does not pop out of gear or anything like that....Thanks for all the info fellas...
