Default Finally got my new ( used ) fd and 5th gear swap done..

So I put the tranny back in this afternoon, with the 4.9 and GSR 5th gear, as well as a prolite fly and hdss clutch. Car rockets as you would expect through 4 gears, but cruises at 3500 rpm at 60 mph ( very nice )

The rpm drop going into 5th is no where near as big as I thought it was going to seem, and 5th still pulls at least as hard as it did with all my old stock FD and gears.

The clutch is pretty good, fairly light pedal, and instant grab. I stalled the car a few times getting used to it.

I think my only mistake was putting the motor mount insert into the rear mount while the tranny was out. This thing vibrates and resonates like a bugger. It sounds like I have a muffler exiting under the hood

Now i have to choose between putting the rest of the inserts in and hoping that by sharing the load points around amongst the other mounts I can get rid of some of this crazy vibration and sound, or pull the one rear mount insert back out.

Does anybody have experience with running just the rear mount? Is this the vibration level I can expect even with more inserts ( or worse? ) The vibration does not go away in any gear at any rpm, and it's LOUD!..

The rear mount probably makes the biggest difference, but I'm not sure if it would make vibration better or worse adding the rest of the mounts. I'd imagine worse. Most people go in the reverse order because getting to that mount is a bitch.

Give the motor mount inserts time, you'll get used to them. Then every other car you sit in will feel like it isn't on.

curious to hear how hard the gear swapping was? Did you do this at home, or did you have to hoist the car up...Will jacks work.

Thanks,
