Default how boostworthy is a gsr engine?

i know gsr's have alot better flow in the head, and the vtec is certainly better. but, how are they in stock form? how much boost can be safely run on a stock gsr engine? also, what about a poorman's type r?

no motor is safe to boost with stock internals...

I wouldn't run more than 8psi on a stock motor, 10psi tops. But LS turbo is whats up.

with a good setup and even better fuel managment, boosting is safe! depending on the kit 7-12psi

b18c1 is fine for boosting.

I believe the second gen B16 head has better flow than a GSR. I remember reading about it here and they had dyno results to prove it. If you search im sure you'll find it. And the vtec is better only because of the higher lift on the vtec lobe not because of the head. And as for it being turbo worthy, it can be, but that is a hell of a lot of compression to put on stock internals. It will work but there is no guarantee as to how long it will last, it all depends on the condition of your motor.

ive definitely heard of the b16 head having better flow than the b18c. i guess, i could at least drop in some low comp pistons

yah i was considering seriously boosting my gsr, its a '95 with 95xxx. the motor is sittin in my EH2 i was wondering if a greddy kit would fit if i retain my A/C? Also i didnt wanna build the motor at all prob just run the stock greddy boost and not turn it up you guys think its a good idea?

the greddy kit is the bigggest piece of **** you can buy, unless youre in ca, theres no reason for wasting money for it. just buy a revhard a/c manifold, and you can keep your a/c.

No motor is safe to boost on stock internals? Ive been boosting my LS on 8 psi daily and 13 on the hang out nights. my friend is also pushing 6 psi daily and 10 psi on his stock gsr. he would of gone with more boost but he didn't have a 3bar map sensor. but on 10 psi he made 294whp with a/f's that were running rich. Your motor is only as strong as your weakest part and the weakest part isn't always internals. Tuning plays a huge part in running more boost. as long as your not too agressive with the timing and you give your motor enough fuel it will last awhile. people on this board have run 16psi (not pump fuel) on stock LS's. its all in the tuning.

if you want to boost a stock motor and not do a rebuild you only have to do two things to be on the safe side.
get a thicker head gasket to lower the compression in the motor.
make sure you have the proper fuel management tuning which will most likely mean getting bigger injectors, hondata/uber or some type of ecu control to re map your fuel & ignition tables.

your Major goal is to avoid detonation by all costs if you want your motor to last.

Not with LS motors.... I've put over 40,000 boosted miles on my LS and it still runs like the day I put the turbo on. I don't know how many miles the motor has on it total, but I'm going to guess around 150k.

FMU and inline pump works fine unless you get greedy with the boost.

so amny people in here with so much misinformation once again. it all depends on what the condition of the motor is built or not. if you do a compresison test and leak down test on the motor and you get good results then go ahead and boost it.

my gsr motor was boosted for 4 months on stock internals at 12 psi and made 326 hp to the wheels and 226 tq. i did a rebuild only because i wanted to run more boost. my comression after 4 months yeilded 210 210 210 210 after boosting 12 psi for 4 months on stock internals.

b18c1 motors flow really well for boost. its all in the tuning. there are guys thaty have made 450-500 on stock block gsr motors of course they didnt last long point is goes to show you how well stock internals can do on a normal amounnt of boost.

good luck

what about, if you do a minor buildup, say... rods, low comp pistons, and a block guard, you think you could run 18lbs on it?

its not dependent on how much psi you run but rather how much HP you produce ..... for example stock sleeves can handle close to about 500 hp max but not every day they are a opn dek setup and will start to float around after about 350. i have je 9:1 pistsons eith eagle rods and a GE block guard and i plan making 450-500 @ about 25-27 psi with sc61 69 trim. yes it cna be dont its all in the tuning and how well you put your mtor together. you can t just slap **** to gether and expect it to work. take your time and do it right

I have a boosted LS with a pnp head. Uberdata for management and I run 10 psi daily. The car pulls like hell. Traction is my only issue.

Do some homework in the Forced Induction forum. Lots of knowledge there. Also search. These topics have been covered a million times. Good luck.
