NHRA RULE REVISION...."THE GARY RULE!"
Well they did it once why not do it again. This time around they tacked on another 75lbs for additional power adders making garys weight well over 2300lbs. Fair, or not? let nhra know what they've done in this poll. I think its total b.s.
*Gary if they dont swing your way just go out their and lay the smack down on GM...with the extra weight. Youve got the honda-tech family backing ya.goodluck -pdang

I think this is some Bs, he is at street class weight, you might as well put interior and a sub and stereo in your car and see wtf they want to say. **** them lay the smack down on GM anyway!!!!
for the hardest working crew in the Hot Rod class!
for the hardest working crew in the Hot Rod class!
I think its total BS i wrote to NHRA and gave them a piece of my mind. lets see if they get enough hate mail and see this will change **** in wrong direction
They're just afraid of a HotRod Honda getting close to their ProFWD GM's... That sounds like a weak rule change. Is there anything on the NHRA website that adresses this?
I think it's fair for GM because that car bends the rules severly on the chasis portion of the car.... Where as Gary's car is 100% legit...
What is fucked up is that ... they penalize just Gary, why not Penalize Kenny Tran also if it's a Tranny thing ??
Also I don't see how Gary is soo much infront of Marty that he should be penalize
Gary ran, 8.08, 8.20, 8.33, 8.42
Marty ran 8.18, 8.18, 8.32, 8.54 letting off
So those are some even damn times, but yet he gets penalized so GM can get back on top... We don't even know if Marty had his car tuned up to the fullest.
I just think it's ridiculous because the car already weighs 2250lbs, how much do you want a race car to weigh?? I mean Street cars have a lower minimum weight...

Its getting rediculous. So are they going to revise the rules every race since it seems that Gary goes faster and faster everytime out. we will see what happens.

Gary why dont you just run ndra since they seem to be backing you on this bs weight penalty. But also i say go out to nhra play there hand and go show them a royal flush. Run the 7 sec hot rod pass
Is NDRA still offering money for the next 7 second FWD car or did Lisa get it all?
Go for it Gary!
We all saw this coming, I really wish he would have been able to back the 8.08 up before they changed the rules. Hell, NHRA didn't even give him any mention on the Saturday Qualifying recap from E-town. I think that pisses my off the most. #1 qualifier with a possible record if backed up and no mention.
I really don't think NHRA wants any of the HOT ROD cars running 7's no matter who it is. I think they are trying to keep them in the low 8's and that is it. If these things can run 7's and we know they can then why even have a Hot Rod and a Pro FWD class? We might see them merged for next year, after all, they have been lucky to even get 3 or 4 cars qualifying in P-FWD each event so far. Hot Rod participation hasn't been much better.
We will probably see NHRA try to keep Hot Rod times around 8.1-8.3 and let the rest of the field catch up. Everyone qualifies within 2/10's of each other and then it is anyone's race everytime out which makes for better racing and I believe that is NHRA's goal.
If that is thier goal then they should let the racers/fans know so everyone isn't pissed off everytime someone gets close to a 7 and they add weight to them. Then the racers can stop trying to run 7's and be the #1 fastest car by 2/10's each time out and work on longevity, consistency and r/t's!
Either way, make the weight work for you and go out and kick some butt.

Speaking as someone who has written rules for a sancrtioning body, I think this is the most sane thought out answer that has been posted yet. I agree with the general concensus raised here, that the weight penalties seem strange, but I don't think it's due to the fact that NHRA is getting paid by GM. Anyone actually believing that has a very very small mind. If GM were trying to pay for wins, I can almost bet that it sure wouldn't be the Sport Compact series. The NHRa is making weight changes like they are going out of style, it wasn't so long ago that they added a bunch of weight to marty's car too, how soon we forget.
I hope that no one takes this as an attack, it sure is nothing against Gary. Gardella racing is one of the if not THE hardest working temas in Motorsports, not just drag racing. Their dedication, and drive are second to none. I congratulate Gary, and Jon every chance I get , as they always put on a great show for all concerned.
What I would like to see is an honest explanation from someone within the NHRA organization that will explain why we are seeing weight changes so often lately. I think that it like has to do with trying to keep the cars from going 7's, the only problem with that, is that they have no idea what to do to try to stop these cars from going so fast. The cars in Hot Rod are going to go 7's and you can see it coming. If the NHRA really doesn't want it, they can impose speed limits like they have with Jet cars.
Please understand, this is not meant as an attack or insult in anyway, and I still want to see Gary kick GM's ***, but that's just because Gary rocks, and Honda's are just cooler cars than GM's

Guys, I am not going to make judgement on the rule changes. Like Clayton said, we all need a NHRA official to explain in detail the reasoning behind all of this. It could be a valid point (safety, insurance) to them. But like it was said earlier, let the fans and drivers know why.
First of all I give gary and crew MAD prop's they work their asses off and it shows in their performance
My personal feeling is that NHRA is trying to slow the class down, After seeing them penalize Marty, I don't think I would have come out the next race and put the smack down on the class, But hey they want to run a number too
All I can say is get your Gasoline tune-up's ready!

hehe, yeah possibly, but if i was in Garys boat, with all honesty, id pack up my **** and move to Pro-Fwd.... He can run a bigger tire up front, and even keep all the weight there so peopel cant say anything, and even if they did say anything, its a unibody... Let me say this, They arent going to fade Gary whatsoever, no matter what the do, he will go fast, unless they just bannish him from the sport, hehe

Yes Glen, but that doesnt mean that you cant run in there withOUT a chassis car.. Jojo has ran fontana with his hotrod car in the pro-fwd class to get points...
Imagine Garys car on a 30 inch slick...
