looking to buy, opinions? known issues, better years?
i have been doing some reading, and after owning 01-0736 R, im in the market for its older brother. i checked out the stats on the faq page listed at the top of the forum, and i think so far my best choice is the 95 nsx-t. i have heard the 94's are lighter due to the hardtop, but the bigger brake ducts, and the pop top are a nice perk. anything else i should know? lets hear your opinion. thanks in advance.

Oh really? Have you driven one before? I don't believe so. The NSX is plenty fast. It has more than adequate horsepower and I enjoy driving mine at the track. All you guys do is look at the horsepower ratings. That' all that's important to you. The NSX is NOT a drag car. It's in its element at the racetrack. It was designed to be tracked. Sure I get blown away on the straights by other high power cars but I eat them up on twisties. The NSX is very quick. The others are DOG SLOW in the corners.
Go buy a Viper and drive fast in a straight line, like any idiot can do.

Umm, i know him personally and was busting his *****. It was a half serious comment. I am aware of their track capabilities. He is not a track driver so thats not really relevant anyway. And no I havent driven one, but I have put 2 car lengths on one from the end of 1st to the end of 3rd and my car is no top end monster yet, still has a stock turbo.
And a mid 13 to low 14 1/4 acceleration for all the $$$ you need to shell out for one of these things is not satisfactory for alot of people, which is why I did not buy one despite how good they look.

nice if you have a 100k income, and a house already
im buying a used Viper before I'm buying an NSX. You can get a used 98 or even a 99 Viper for 45k
Search in autotrader with a 45k limit for Vipers and your results return dozens of them, here is a nice one:
'97 GTS, 9k on it, carfax certified

I'd love to get a Viper...a blue w/ white strip GTS version, if you please. That said, the Viper can surely handle in the short term - in stock form and the previous iteration anyway. That Viper has an inherent flaw in it's design and quickly overheats it's tires if asked to do repeated stops and turns. I'm sure the new version has addressed that issue. They'd be fool not to.

Do you really know absolutely nothing about the capabilities of the NSX, or do you customarily quote figures for the version with the automatic transmission (9 percent of all NSXs sold)?

I only go by what I've seen with my own 2 eyes at drag strips.

That's obviously your problem. You've been watching amateurs, and making the false assumption that that represents NSX performance. I'm sure my grandmother would take more than 15 seconds in the NSX, but that doesn't prove what the car is capable of doing.
Even the early 3.0-liter NSX usually tested around 13.8 seconds in the 1/4 mile in magazine tests. And the 3.2-liter NSX-T tested a half second better, and the rarer 3.2-liter NSX Coupe better still. At drag strips, a good driver can knock several tenths off the magazine times just by emptying the car of the spare and tools etc, and using a 1/4 tank of gas, and lowering the inflation of the tires a bit - all stuff that the magazine tests don't do. And all of this is for a bone stock car.

Alright, fair enough.
So instead of it being a low 14 to mid 13 second car, its a low 13 to high 13 second car
Please tell me how thats still not slow? I'm not even talking about the lack of acceleration, engine power, potential.

Isn't that all relative though? To somebody who's got a 14 sec ITR, low 13 is awesome. Especially considering that's stock. To someone with a Z06, 13 means they need to work on their driving a bit. To someone with a Supra, it means that 900rwhp dyno queen is just as fast as their buddies 600rwhp track *****.
To someone with an RX-7, 13 means that their next pass will be in the 12s and the one after will be on a trailer going from b/c of a grenaded engine.
Just messing with 'ya.
