Default Hondata Heatshield Gasket... It's just a $60 piece of plastic?

Is that all it really is?

If you have access to a cutting machine that can replicate the precision of the Hondata gasket and a sheet of the non-thermal-conductive material that they use, it would be to your benefit to pay $2 rather than $60. In essence, it moves the manifold back 1/8th inch and keeps it from heat soaking. If you can do that for less than $60, I highly suggest you do so.

No, I get what you're saying... I just didn't know it was plastic. If it does what Hondata claims it does, then it's worth it to me.

It's a special kind of polymer plastic that resists a hell of a lot of heat. You gain benefits in the long run from this resistance to heat soaking, but also the thicker gasket allows the fuel from the injectors to atomize more completely before reaching the combustion chambers which, if you have a grasp on fluidynamics, raises the solubility/combustion rate (clean burn) and makes mo' powah!

a buddy of mine recently installed hondata gasket on his built b20vtec...

to be blunt, while motitoring the intake temperature at constant idle and normal running conditions (hondata s200 w/datalogging), it varied from 165-179deg. as opposed to the normal 190+- stock....

i'd say its worth the investment

Hey, $60 for a little more power... can't beat that!
