Default Spoon Brake Pads

Does anybody have the specifications for the Spoon brake pads? Operating temperatures?

Does anybody have these pads care to share their experiences? I'm gearing up for several track events next year and am starting to look for a pad that I can use for both street and track (yes, I know there will be compromises...)

I know nothing about the Spoon pads, but the Porterfield R4S's are great on the track and totally streetable. Lots o'dust, but that's the price you pay I guess.

Why spend all the money on Spoon pads when you can get something just as good in the US?

Actually, I don't reccomend Endless because of its price. Pretty good pads, but just REALLY not worth their price.

I haven't spent any money... that is why I am asking around for opinions first.

I just completed a 5 lug conversion and I am running endless rotors in the front and endless pads on all four corners. I am very pleased! Sometimes you have to pay to play ;-) I have had EBC and also liked them, porterfield are a good race pad as well. I guess it's up to how much you want to spend and application. Street/race??

A friend of mine swapped out his set of barely used Endless pads for a set of Hawk HP+ pads and was pleased with the improved on track performance.

I can confirm that I had my rotors melting with these pads and the pads are still strong.

Don't waist your money on consumables like brake pads. Save your money for things that last!

Regards,

I am currently using the Spoon brake pads with their 4 piston callipers. I don't know much about the specific specs since the car came with the Spoon gear and I didn't buy them off the shelf.

I have used them since April both on the track and daily "to and from" work. They are great on the track in conjunction with the callipers and don't need a lot of warming up. They wear quite well as there is still 40% left after 4 tracks days this summer and about 6,000km of daily commuting.

On the street they tend to squeal a bit on the hotter days. On the track they tend not to squeal for the first 5 or 6 laps then they squeal again once they get really hot. Even so, I can go 25-30 laps with no fade. Buy then the rotors are glowing.

Would I buy another set? You bet! I would also consider Endless pads just to see what they're like. Not because the Spoon pads are not good, but because sometimes I just like to try out new stuff to compare.

Why isn't it worth the price?
Endless Pads are nice, well built and work decent. They're VERY expensive compared to Hawk, Porterfield, PF, Carbotech... Pads need changing around once a year if you do any lapping at all anyways, so I wouldn't want to spend 300$+ for a set of pads that don't perform any better than some pads from the above manufacturers.

It's not a matter of if they're good or not. The top level pads from Endless are not up to par with the top level pads from Hawk, Performance Friction or others that I forgot to mention though. But their street/track line such as CC-X are great for a better pad on the street. Again, the price difference is just too large to ignore. I wouldn't buy a set just because a set of HP+ will do the job just as well, with maybe a little more dusting.

MikeD,

I know someone (Corey AKA Hondab13dx) who would be more than happy to disagree with you about the Porterfields. He put a brand-new pair on his Prelude on Sunday at Summit Point, and by the end of the day they were fried. Even my ITR pads withstood 4 days of track abuse. When I decide to get pads (tomorrow) they will be Carbotech Panther Plus.

From Spoon's site:

Suitable Temp Range for Rotor = 200-300 degree celsius
Operating temp = 50-700 degree celsius
Friction Coefficient Range = 0.3 - 0.5 MU
