Hey guys, i have a few questions about preludes.
Hey, im 17 and looking to sell my car (1998 contour sport se) and buy a prelude.
Here's a few problems of mine.
Ive never driven one, but i love the way they look, and hear they are REALLY dependable.
They're hard to find here, i found a 92 auto, red, spoiler, with 130k miles, for 4900 or so. My parents are all like "over 100k miles is bad! bad bad!" So i'm trying to steer away from that, is that a good idea, or does it matter with hondas?
I'm trying to make this car last me awhile.
Will the insurance company rip me a new one with full coverage? (clean record)
And, are there any other good resources besides cars.com, autotrader.com and the newspaper?

Hey, please don't get auto!!!
That is kinda too much for that lude, stay away from it, as far as the prelude itself.
Find a 5 speed, LEARN it and then decide what you want to do.
If you are into speed and looks, 4th gens for sure, if you are into looks and a newer version of it, well 5th gens all the way
i own one.
Good luck.
Any future advice, use this first: https://honda-tech.com/zerosearch

search the pages of this site and hpoa.org, between the two of them, you'll find with minutiae of prelude fact and fiction discussed. But answer one question, a 100,000 miles is fine if you have all the maintenance records esp. the timing belt service. H22a Vtec motors will run you 500-900 bucks unless you do it yourself. But parts will cost you half that. This is how much it cost me to do my timing belt.
52.00 Honda OEM Timing Belt
88.00 Honda OEM Autotensioner
109 Honda OEM Timing Belt and Balance Shaft belt tensioner set.
50.00 for OEM Water Pump
18.00 for Beck Arnley Balance Shaft Belt.
20.00 or so bucks for the cam seals
20.00 or so bucks for the balance shaft seal
20.00 for the crank seal.

17 year old with full coverage on a sports coupe , that drives a honda one of the more stolen cars.. yeah insurance will be high, do a search for a thread with the word insurance in it.. its been covered
and as far as the car goes. 1 its an auto .. yuck! you will regret it later.. 2nd its already got 130k on it, which is not much for a honda motor if properly taken care of, but the h23a1 in that 92 don't take to nicely to being beat on after a hard engine life. and 3rd they want 4900!!!!! hhahaha , tell them you will give them 3000 for it max..
go look up values on http://www.nada.com or http://www.kbb.com and you should check news papers and autotrader.com
it took me a year to find a prelude i wanted.

You really need to exhaust all methods to get a car. Just keep looking around and go look at a bunch. As for getting an auto with over 100k you are crazy. That tranny will have problems before you know it, and that wont be cheap.
As for insurance there are ways to get that down, I know when I was younger I used to put myself as a part time driver.
Find a clean a manual that someone used as their commuter car and you should be ok.
Good luck

I bought a '95 Prelude VTEC back in 1999 for $15,000. Yea, it was about 1 or 2 grand too much at the time, but it was worth it to me. It's fully loaded (except electronic seats) and had 58k miles at the time. I'm at 112k now and haven't had any major work done.
I searched high and low for the car -- I knew I wanted a 4th gen VTEC, which are are few and far between where I was living at the time (Richmond, VA). If you're looking to buy a 4th gen, you'll have an even harder time finding one under 100k.
I recommend autotader, edmunds, carmax or autonation (if you have one close) and of course the newspaper (where I found mine). Look in your neighboring states too -- it might be worth the trip.
Good luck!
