breaking in period
Read the Manual, on my bike the manual said stay below 7500 rpms for the first 600 miles, then change the oil. Then stay below 11k rpms until you reach 1,000 miles. After that let her rip.
my kawasaki manual says below 4K rpms for first 500 then under 7k rpms until 1000...i followed that except for a few occasions and just got my bike back today from it's first 600mile service at the dealer..they said the bike was in good shape and there was ZERO ticking from the valves unlike most other bikes have when they come in due to the owner ripping on them so they said they could tell mine wasn't beat on at all..i've heard though that all these new bikes are already Red-lined at the factory anyway before they're ever ridden due to the factory tests they do..i say keep it reasonable for the first 500 then let it rip
My local honda dealer said they include the first service in the cost of a bike when you buy it. I ended up buying a Kawasaki and they don't include it in the price when you buy a bike. You pay either way though cause Honda is just adding it onto the price. I paid a little over $100 for my service.

I know you don't have to buy that...extra grand is a fair chunk of change, but the salesmen make more money if they include that, i do't know how they could have snuck something like that by ya though...

the dealer was gonna add on a 3 year extended warranty for 499 but i was hesitant, so they gave it to me for 399</TD></TR></TABLE> a grand was for gap insurance n 5year extended warr. Cuz if the bike gets jacked, the gap insurance would help me finish my payments. cuz insurance wont pay for everything. jus tryin to be safe. i dont wanna make payments on something i dont got.

oh ok, that's not too bad then... i kinda wish my dealer offered me gap insurance because i only have liability and i'm always paranoid about my bike getting stolen. the cheapest full coverage i can find is with progressive, 2,200 a year
i'm 21 with a clean driving record too

o man, forget that company! give state farm a call. They will hook u up. Am 22 wen i got my bike i didnt even have a permit or license they insured me for 35bucks a month full coverage. n my record aint clean man. Give them a call!
Follow the schedule and don't go over 7 for the first 500... after that i'd stay under 11 until about 2-300 miles after the 600 mile service... you wont do any damage if you did it right up until the 600, but redlining the bike as tempting as it may seem with very low miles is gonna hurt the baby
Actually i have heard that riding the **** out of it is good for it, it seals the piston rings...checkout this site...

Oh, if you read it on the internet it must be true. Moto-man certainly looks like he knows more than the knowledgeable engineers who designed the bike from Honda, Kawasaki, Triumph, Yamaha, Ducati and every other reciprocating engine manufacturer on the planet.
Trust the engineers or moto-choad with you brand new 11k dollar bike? All in the name of minimal hp on a bike that will never see the track. A ******* brilliant display of squidness if there ever was one.

woah jesus guy, relax.....i wasn't saying he was more reliable as a source than anything, i was simply saying that its been said and done, and i know for a fact that alot of people who ride only track break their engines in on dynos so that the piston rings seal, so quit being such an ******* and actually consider the possibility that there are other methods. I would imagine it would significantly incresase the wear on the engine though.
Actually roy, dyno break in the norm. Manufacturer break in schedules are written by company lawyers, accountants and service advisors. Now granted internet info should always be approached cautiously, the information on that particular link is quite similar to what our team and more importantly our engine builder uses.
