Default Question on purchasing an R

I am looking into buying one this week.

I am looking at this Type R, it is a 1998 championship white one, exactly what I want, CLEAN TITLE, he is asking 18300 and I got him down to 17500, it is all stock with exception of a very nice mod, jackson racing supercharger, only run at 5 lbs and only been on for 6 months, never driven in bad weather either. The guy is a middle aged guy and you can tell teh car has not been ripped on. It is almost mint condition, maybe a slight ding or two, normal, and has 70k miles on it.

Do you guys think this is a Fair deal or a good deal.

Its not from some teenager that ripped on it all day.

Also, not that this is a big factor to me, but what do u think a type r with a JRSC pushin 5-7 lbs of boost would to HP wise and 1/4 mile time wise. (sorry, dont want to sound like a ricer, lol) curious....

it's from an old man that ripped on it all day..

i'd say it's a fair deal.. that's about what I was going to get for mine that had been hit and didn't have a blower in August..

there will be many who'll say it's too much though..

It has a CLEAN TITLE and a JRSC though, those are quite a plus for me, theres not many left with clean titles.

sounds like you've convinced yourself and are just looking for people to back that up..

if you think it's worth it, you should go for it..

I paid a little more than half that for a 98 w 100k. No supercharger, but 17 seems a little high. Of course if the car is immaculate, then you'll be getting what you pay for. Good luck!

15-16 sounds reasonable for that amount of miles.

Still , people are not taking into consideration teh JRSC, that is worth a good 2k. so the car is selling for about 15500, which i think is more than fair, its hard to find a TYPE R forsale for that that is clean title and clean in general

Same here. Had a 93 Delsol si with JRSC and sucks. Always have to maintain the
stupid belt from falling off due to stretching in different seasonal temp. and crap
bearing pulley which also need replacing frequent if your car is a daily driver.
Brought 2 R's and can't beat stock N/A reliability IMO.

Default Re: Question on purchasing an R (hatch4raceb16)

Go for it. If I was to boost my R it would be a JRSC. 240 to the wheels with some low end snot would make the car perfect. Just need fuel/timing management and bolt-ons. It's funny that someone would put JUST a JRSC on their car though, no matter what the car. If he's using hack tuning that will need replacing.

Def check the compression!!!

In the future a thick HG will allow more boost, that and alcohol injection.

well he has only been running 5 lbs on it, so i doubt the motor has had any sort of damage, and he is also runnin the map contrller from JR.

Go for it.

Why not get it checked out, Compression, leakdown and a visual for normal wear and on a dyno before buying?

Maybe it has unseen problems and thats why he is selling.
