what makes the stick feel sloppy?

what makes the stick feel sloppy?

i have more play in the stick on my 95 civic than i did in my old 90 civic. what causes play and is there any way to fix it?

1. Bad shift bushings...get ES ones.
2. The linkage bolt isnt tight enough.
