took off distributor...now car won't start
my friend took the distributor off the car and put it back on. after he put it back on, the car won't start anymore. it tries to crank over, but it won't. any ideas why this happened? he only took it off then put it back on...nothing else.

whats plugs?
he was thinking the timing, but the timing from the timing belt? i thought it didn't matter how you put the distributor back on.

timing is adjusted by the dizzy....if you notice you can spin it just a lil bit when its on....
and they are talking about the 2 harness plugs that connect to it.

yeah...the harness is plugged in.
timing at the dizzy....i thought if it was moved either way it would just advance the timing, but not keep the car from turning over.
he said he put it pretty much at normal timing. he couldn't check it with a timing light cause the car won't start.

i had the same problem. check ur timing on the crank. when i took my dizzy off then put it back on it wouldn't start, come to find out my crank was a whole 180 off. beats the **** out of me how that happend cuz it was on tdc but it went a whole 180 off.
Take off your distributor cap. Set cam timing to tdc. Check to see if the rotor on the distributor is pointed to the #1 spark plug wire. If its not, then it might of been 180 degree off. So try that first.
he took the cap off and set the crank at tdc. the rotor, was facing straight toward the front of the car....the screw that holds the rotar was facing right towards the firewall...hope you know what i mean
he didn't check for spark
yeah...the car wants to turn over, but it won't

make sure u put the dizzy in correctly.. there is only one way u can put it in.. if u dont put it in right, ur cars timing will be off 180.. take off the dizzy and turn the dizzy 180 degrees and stick it back in..

what motor is this? d-series, b-series,....anways the way you described it, sounds like its 180 degree off. the rotor should be pointed the other way, not towards the front of the car. #1 plug should be towards the firewall.

he has a b series motor.
timing is off from the timing belt? if the rotor is facing the wrong way, how do you get it facing the right way?
if he takes off the dizzy and turn it 180 degrees, won't the rotor still be facing the front of the car?

i had some guys do the same thing to their 94 teg ls. they took off the dist. to change the starter. put it back together and nothing. so first, be sure the plug wires are on in the correct order. second, be sure the notch on the dist. pefectly matches the slot on the end of the cam. if you put it on 180 off, you could have busted the bearings that the whole thing rides in, thats bad news. i had the guys telling me that the are 100% sure everything was on just how it was taken off. turns out the plug wires were all frunked around. start there. then , if nothing, pull the dist off and check the slot. hope that helps, keep us posted!!!
for some reason, the timing belt was off?
set it back to tdc, put the timing belt back on, car started right up.
