quaife install- wrong diff. & bearings???
I tried installing a b16a quaife LSD in my (thought to be) JDM b16a hydro tranny. The ring gear of my (thought to be) JDM B16a tranny was oversized for the b16a Quaife differential. From what i'm thinking, i probably have a gsr diff, and so i am getting a gsr quaife instead.
can someone verify what i have/don't have, what i need/don't need?
this pic shows how the stock (thought to be) b16a ring gear doesn't match up with the quaife b16a's diff holes.

here is a pic of the stock (thought to be) b16a differential. check out the markings, can you identify it?

i appoligize for the size of the pics, i'm not on my comp and didn't know how to shrink them.
My second question is in regard to the differential side bearings. Unaware of a difference, I orinigally ordered ones for a b16a tranny, which from my understanding are NOT tapered. I'll see if they're tapered or not tomorrow. However, as you can see in the pic, the bearings on the (thought to be) b16a tranny ARE tapered. So, if the diff is from a GSR going on the idea that a GSR diff is bigger, then do i order the diff. side bearings from a GSR? Will they be tapered or not? Anyone have the correct part number to order for the bearings?
thanks for any info.
lastly. now that i am getting a gsr quaife lsd, will i have a problem w/ the axles fitting in? i read something about that in a previous post. please reassure me i won't.

That 1st photo certainly looks like a GSR/ITR ring gear on a LS/Si sized diff carrier. I don't know of any other possibility, as I think there were only 2 diff sizes used in the hydro transmissions. Someone can correct me if this is not the case.
Those carrier bearings are used in the pre-98 (or pre-99) GSR (maybe ITR as well). I am not sure what the Si diff bearings look like, but my guess would be cartridge style as opposed to tapered. For ease of installation - no preload shimming - I used the newer GSR/ITR bearings, which are cartridge type. You should be able to remove the tapered races from the case and use the newer bearings; you will need to shim them, but it's much easier than shimming the tapered style. This should be the part #: 91005-P80-E31
You should verify this, though. Check on the late model GSR/ITR.
I haven't heard about any axle fitment problems, and I would think that since you were probably running a GSR diff to begin with, the Quaife isn't going to change anything.

sounds good thanks. btw its definitely a b16a quaife lsd in the 1st pic. also, yeah once i thought about it, i realized there shouldn't be any axle problems.
can anyone else verify the part number to get for the bearings??
