Default anyone have any problems with ep3

i just bought one myself(02 with only 10k) and was just wondering what problems i should look out for. i've heard people having trouble with gas lid not opening when you pull on the lever but thats about it.

3rd gear synchro seems to be a weak point.

ephatch.com is more Si-specific. There's also a lot of complainers there.

Remember that what you hear/read on message boards is often a small sampling of what's really going on (i.e. who wants to post about "my shifter felt great this week!").
FWIW, I'm at 15K miles on an 03 and haven't had any problems that I didn't start (damn coilovers).

50k here....Only issues are a clunking in the suspension(damn the EPs suspension, seems like once you crack into it it goes to ****)and the clutch-1-2-3-4-reverse that went out at 14k.....Other than that great car,had the hondata on since 15k and its strong to this day.

I've been getting a problem in the transmission coming out of 1st gear.
The one day i didn't give it a whole lot of gas and it seemed that it just stalled, but it didn't stall out so i thought nothing of it. I took it outta gear and then went to put it back in and it wouldn't engage so i tried to put in 2nd, that wouldn't go either, all the way up through 5th.
Thirty seconds later after coasting about 50 ft they all came back, shortly after my blood ran cold and shut down my nervous system...
The only other complaint is the occational grinding in 2nd a little but usually in high RPM

22000 miles over 12000 with hondata
broke a valve spring in two road racing ...

If you plan to pound on it, make sure your valves are adjusted and happy. Since my car was "new" and within "spec" honda told me I didn't need a valve adjustment... boy were they wrong.

i have an 02 si w/ 18k, the gas cable slips off the pulley system.. its a lil plastic peice that pops back in.. its a bitch to pop back in place unless u have small hands

I havnt had any tranny trouble..I think ppl with tranny troubles cant drive.. But who knows..

my intake also backfires ones and a while.. sounds like a big poping sound.. only happens when the car is cold and whe u gas to much while switching gears. ( have a short ram intake)

The low gas light comes on way to early sometimes.. other than that nothing to add.. its a fun car

just change the oil ever 3k and drive it like its stolen

3k, because everyone's been used to changing oil within that time.

one thing to watch are the engine mounts. if u plan to track or slalom the car, they have softer mount bushings. it will shake after a certain amount of time. if the maual says 5k, and it does on helms, then do so. you're not doing anything wrong nor voiding your warranty... or are u?

I have an 03 EP with 21k, and it runs great!!! Esp. when you punch it! 15.9 with stock tires & AEM cold air!
I change the oil every 5, and did the clutch adj @ 15K. Yeah, I did run into some grinding of 1st to 2nd, but never during downshifting or when I'm punching it tho.
