Default 1988 Prelude Power Antenna

1988 Prelude Power Antenna

Any one know how if it is possible to replace the antenna mast , or do I
need a complete power unit?
Car just purchased, radio on,went to close boot and the spoiler edge
caught the antenna and mangled it into the boot rim.
Crazy alignment of unit, and on investigating the fitting there seems no
way of aligning to clear spoiler.
Any ideas please! (yes, I know I could turn radio off before opening
boot)

Yes you can just replace the mast. I've done this before on the same model. All you have to do is to: 1) Unscrew the lock nut. 2) Turn the radio on for the ant motor to push the damaged mast up - take note of wich way the teeth of the teflon tail of the mast is facing. You will need to install the new one with the same alignment. 3) Pull the damaged mast out and put new mast in. Make sure that the teeth side of the tail is aligned the same way as that of the old mast. 4) With the ant tail still pressing firmly down, have some one else help you turn off the radio to trigger the ant motor to wind down the tail and the mast. 5) Reinstall the lock nut. That is.
