Popping/backfiring while cranking motor
Car is a 94 GSR and a friend of mine just dropped it off at my house. Everything is stock. Before i take a closer look at it tomorrow i would like some input from others. Friend said it stalled while driving 90mph on the freeway. Now it just cranks over like normal but pops and backfires through the tail pipe and does not start up. Timing belt seems to be ok cuz i could see the intake cam turning (oil cap removed) while cranking the motor. I'm thinking its ignition related but all ideas are welcome. Thanks.
Did you check the actual timing? Sounds like a timing problem. The belt might be loose and caused a cam or both cams to jump teeth.
True, i was thinkin something along those lines as well. Or i was thinkin the actual dist. might have moved (but its tight) since it was recently replaced.
