Pistons and Road Course Racing
Hey, I was thinking of getting some jdm type r pistons or some civic type r pistons. But when I was about to order them I was told that cast pistons won't be able to handle road course racing. What do you guys think? When I was told this, I thought about all of the other type rs that have been road racing on cast pistons. I seriously need to bugdet, and not spend to much on my bottom end without sacrificing reliability, so any help would be great.
yeah..cast cant take the heat like forged..but a big radiator will get rid of lots of heat for you..you can also use thermal coatings on the piston to keep the piston from absorbing heat...
Would aftermarket forged pistons have that anti-friction coating that the stock ITR and CTR pistons have?
My R has 16k miles on the stock motor. So far, I have had no problems with it. Matter o' fact, I am making 188hp to the wheels and have been tracking/road racing with it since it had 1300 miles on the ticker.
I think stock pistons will do just fine.

i have had 8 race events on my motor
stock bottom and rev past 9500 rpms
sure the motor is tired now
a little blowby
but thats why i got manley ultralite rods and JE 12.5s for the winter rebuild
and I had them moly coat the skirts and ceramic coat the tops
should be fun stuff next season
