Default Make My Car Look Good

I have a '92 Civic Si. It spent most of its life parked outside until I bought it. The blue paint is pretty faded on the roof, and is in poor condition overall. Please give me some advice on how to improve it while I save up money for a paint job. I've never used anything other than the Turtle Wax type 1 step products. Went to the store and was confused by all the options: clay bars, cutting coumpounds, swirl removers, etc. What would you do in what order with what products? Help a newbie out. Thanks.

PS: I do have an orbital polisher from Sears.
