Default unorthodox crank pulley problems?? on h22 motor

anyone else have problems with any unorthodox crank pulleys?? I heard that it throws the crank off balance and its just ruins the bearings.... that was what i heard, but i got one anyways, but after about under 10,000 highway miles my motor had rod knock, and this was after the whole motor was rebuilt, well im not sure if the machine shop messed up or what, I pulled my motor and brought it to another machine shop to check if it was rebuildable maybe to turbo specs... but hell no the bearings were spun so bad that the block was gone.they said it can be fixed but they werent gonna bet on it lasting long....so uim jus twondering if anyone else has or had this problem?? its a really nice piece, not saying it suck but just curious to find out if any one had this same misfortune with there precious h22??? any feed back would be great....

i tried to put one on my motor about 2 years ago but it wouldn't fit over the crank bolt.....i guess i'm glad it didn't fit cause certain things on honda motors are just best left stock. i've been usin it as a paper weight ever since, for real, i'm lookin at it right now.

LOL Thats pretty much all they are good for. Yeah they work for awhile, but if you're ready for your motor to be fucked up afterwards, then its pointless to have one. I thought about putting one on my car, but then I heard about all of this happening, so I'm glad I didn't.

Actually You would have to determine the harmonic ballance to determine if its unballanced, for example if you have a bored b20 block your rod to stroke ratio or even a lude motor isnt as ballanced as somethingl like a b16 which the lack of load ballance my not be as detrimental to the motor. In fact I'v been using one for almost 40k, no problems, In fact my motor runs awsome never better.

Wow...i was thinking of getting the exact pulley too....and that picture shows that nothing can beat stock on that one!

Sounds like a good idea to get the engine balanced after changing the crank pulley.

Default Thats a little too much...

..cracking open a motor, to have it balanced and bluprinted just b/c you want to use an underdrive crank pulley, to gain maybe 3hp!?!?! Why?!?!?! That is way to much work just to change the pully, also don't you think that someone building a 9sec. race car would consider using an aftermarket pulley if it yielded an advantage? So, if they dont use on a race car for a then why would there be a benefit on a minimally built street car? The point of that pic was to communicate the use of a STOCK crank pully, period!

There's a difference between balancing a crank and harmonicly balancing. The harmonic balancer is there to dampen harmonics created by combustion. It has nothing to do with the balancing of the rotating mass.

Default Yes...

..I know the difference b/w harmonic dampening and balacing a crank, thats the whole reason why you should not repace your OEM pulley, period! Part of its intrinsic function is to provide harmonic dampening, you remove that, and everything else goes from there! Also, I my reply, I was addressing the assumption that balancing the crank would make it OK to use an aftermarket pully, which it wouldn't!
Lastly, does everyone see the picture I attached, thats a stock pulley, do not use aftermarket pulleys on h22's!

all i got to say is that some opf the naturally aspirated hondas such as LISA KUBOS civic with the h22a transplant remains to have the stock pulley. some thingsa in hondas are better left stock cause you got to remember that hondas are precisely tuned from the factory
