Default VTEC Problems...need help

Hey guys im running a B16A1 with an AEM CAI, Skunk2 IM, Full MSD ignition, Fluidyne, Greddy oil catch can, and an Apex'i V-AFC. I am having a problem and I can't really figure out what is causing it.

First off, I noticed on my A/F ratio (Autometer) guage that the mixture was getting progressively richer. It could be simply that my guage is broken (but in that case wouldnt it just shut off). Anyways, now my car wont rev past 7000rpms in any gear. When i try to bring it past 7k the throttle completely cuts out. I checked and changed my oil to see if that would do anything and it didnt. I had no CEL and I looked at my ECU and it wasn't putting out any trouble codes. When I detached my V-AFC opnly then did he CEL come on and the ECU put out trouble codes, whihc could mean the V-AFC might be part of the problem? The ECU put out the trouble codes 22 and 23. I am not exactly sure which codes these are but I think code 22 is Vtec oil pressure switch. I brought it to a mechanic and he suggested the whole V tec soleniod had gone bad. I dont think the whole solenoid is bad so if someone could help me out with a second opinion i would be grateful

sounds like the vafc might have messed something up - from what i understand, piggy backs like that have a tendency to cause problems

I had that problem. It is the msd. I had the 6al. It wouldnt rev past 7000 on my 2000 si and i change back to stock ignition and everything was fine. For the mods that you have you dont need that dam ignition anyways. Keep it stock.

I don't think it is the MSD becase i had the MSD done along with the swap and it revved fine, but its defeniately worth checking out, thanks. BTW what would be the explination for the MSD SCI ignition not allowing the engine to rev to full potential.

any other opinions

if the msd cuts you off, and i know this is obvious, but they make two versions of the sci - which isgenerally accepted as the same as a 6al in silver - any way one sci has a rev limiter - mine doesnt and ive had it for 6 mos. - those codes are vtec oil pressure and knock sensor - did you reset the ecu to see if it fixed it and or the codes come back

By the SCI with the rev limiter do you mean the SCI-L with the launch rev limiter? If that the case I dont have that one, I have the plain old SCI ignition amplifier. Is there two versions of the regular SCI (the one without the launch rev limiter)? If so is there a way to tell the difference. Also, I tried to reset the ECU by disconnecting the Fuse and Battery Terminal for 15 mins and the codes still showed. Im pretty sure the igition is not the problem though cuz the car revved fine when the ignition was first installed, but i could be wrong

I don't have a msd ignition, but mine did the same thing after installing my Power vtec controller. I unhooked it til i worked out my other problems. I am going to hook it back up in a day or two and mess with it some more. I am getting dyno tuned, but i just wanna make sure I don't throw a cel while at the dyno.

Yes i am pretty sure the V-AFC is what did even though it worked fine for about 4 months after the V-AFC was installed. I disconnected my V-AFC and my car was throwing CEL's so i guess maybe I have a faulty Vtec pressure switch and knock sensor. I hope so cuz im getting a headache trying to figure this out.

any other input would be greatly appreciated

On Apexi's web site it says if you are having trouble to hook up the vtm wire. http://www.apexi-usa.com/tech.asp
Hope that helps a little more.
