I am buying an audio console and it's blue. My interior is all black.
Would I need to primer the plastic or just spray the black paint on?
I'm thinking primer it but I just want to be sure before I do anything stupid

Not sure about weather or not you should primer, but Krylon just came out with spray paints designed specifically to bond to plastics. You should check it out, let me know how it goes.

hey man
i had the same problem. Go to Lowes or a home improvement store. I havent used krylon because they do not have a flat black. If they do no one around here carries it, Buy a plastic primer around 4 dollars. then get a interior/enterior black since that what your inerior is. Make sure its flat black unless you want gloss. then to make it look like stock buy a satin clear coat. it gives it a semi shine like stock. Follow the directions on the primer. mine said to let dry for 1 hour. After i did a piece i look my car key to it and to the plastic and made a wave motion and it didnt peel , scratch or flake off. So far so good for me good luck all 3 bottle will cost about 12 bucks, I redid my full interior so i cost alittle bit more. Have fun

SEM Makes product specific for this, I used it to change the console in my civic from acura taupe to black, worked out well....
I'll try to hunt down the post that will have all the product I used and the pics etc...
here it is, It's a different application, but you'll get the idea, I got it from my local parts store, the reason it works well is that it will "dye" rather than paint the material. If all the prep work is done right it holds up pretty good, the console has been in my car for a while and other than some scratches on the back from loading sheets of wood, it hasn't scratched off at all.... most importantly around the cupholders and e-brake where little things like lighters and spare keys are constantly thrown in.....

you got a stock blue audio console? is it for the eg? i'll buy it off you. but if its been painted blue you can use some brake fluid to take the paint off and use the krylon plastic paint to repaint it. It really works great, you dont have to primer if your using the krylon.
seriously, i say this all the time. ADHESION PROMOTOR is your friend. no one ever believes me tho
