Default did a COMPRESSION check and my #'s are ****** crazy.........HELP!!!

yeah for the last few months id say about 3 maybe 4 ive been feeling my car taking long time to wind up so after changing alot of stuff thinking the problem was this and that ( i changed the fuel pump ( upgraded to a gsr pump), i changed cap and rotor and when i put the new cap and rotor in my ignitor went so i had to get that changed also, i also changed my spark plugs, my spark plug wires, my fuel filter, man u name it i have changed it thinking it would fix my car so finally i decide to do a compression test on my car today

i have a JDM b16a with a JDM DC header, AEM intake, APEX N1 catback ( not like it matters ) but i got these #'s when i did my compression check.....going from the cam gears to the distributor cylinder #1 gave me 190, then #2 gave me 195, then #3 gave me 240 along with the 4th one it also gave me a 240......i dint believe it so i did it again and again.....i did it like 4 times probably and eneded up with the same #'s everytime....

190,195,240,240

i dont know what the **** is going on im planning to do a leakdown test tomorrow to check for bent valves but i need help any suggestions would be greatly appreciated....cuz those #'s are INSANE

yeah, usually b16 has 245-250 across the board; so 2 of the #'s sound healthy; did you try putting a couple of drops of oil in the low cylinders to see if compression went up?

the leakdown test will pinpoint the problem anyways

yeah i did that trick like the third time i redid the compression test i thru a lil capful of oil into there and did it again got the same numbers all across so i know my rings arent bad so im thinkin BENT VALVE or VALVES????.....well like u say tomorrow's leakdown will let me know...illl keep you updated.....thanks for everything

Not to ask a stupid question, but in all the stuff you did, did you ever adjust the valves?

naw i never did a valve adjustment cuz honestly me and my mechanic always thought they sounded fine....and the car b4 gave me awesome power....like ridiculous amount for a b16a so i doubt its that....i think it was one time i was on eway and i was holding my drink so i told my girl to throw 5th gear from 4th and she thru it into 3rd instead and there it went to redline which wasnt pretty and bllah blah blah

hmmm this i smy suggestio i dunno if it matters but it helped me in my problem when i had really off readings-check the exhaust manifold gasket make sure its torqued properly, i had a leak and my compression had fucked up readings. hope this helps, if not it will help you decide whats not wrong.

ofcourse it matters ALL SUGGESTIONS are greatly appreciated different things have happened and can happen again....like i said b4 i think the leakdown test tomorrow will let me know whats the deal.........thanx for your input keep em coming they arent a bother........

Bro I told you, your motor is bad just give it to me! . Call me and let me know what the leak down test reads. i hope its just a bad valve and nothing major. Let me know bro.

so.....you do the leakdown? ive got another suggestions sometimes there are minor leaks, i.e. like valve seal and exhaust manifold, etc. but neways hmmm try keep doing the compression test like i normally do mine 3 or 4 times and sometimes the numbers vary. i dunno my compression tester might be fucked but in the end i finally get a good reading thats even across. i know what yo umean bout freakin out if the motor is fucked but that happened to me i had uneven redings like urs and i thought my motor was doodoo and then i replaced the exhaust mani gasket and it was ok.

so can you tell me how an exhaust leak made you get weird compression readings cause that makes no sense to me

also how would a bad valve seal affect compression cause if know anything about engines the valve seat seals the combustion chamber during the compression stroke...oh yeah and i believe if im not mistaken that a valve seal is to keep oil out of the combustion chamber and not to keep the air/fuel mixture in..

well im just throwing suggestions that would help i mean like he said any info regarding this would help. plus my mechanic said that worn valve seals affect the minute difference of compression. hmm for instance it may not make a big difference but can contribute to poor readings with other problems. he says the end of the seals dont efficiently seal if worn out from age. and that can contribute to the problem. oh yah dont get all huffy puffy either-"cause if you know anything about engines...." geez man take a chill pill dont have to get all bent outta shape and get all negative, and heres the explaination about the exhaust leak. if exhaust can leak from the manifold and the head-due to a damage gasket or unproperly tightened nut/bolt, then the reading would be weak in that chamber. um yah dont make like ur high and mighty and know more, infact if you do know more contirbute and stop ha8n. and if that doesnt make sense then you explain to me why after i replaced my exhaust manifold gasket and retorqued the nuts the compression readings were perfect when my mechanic ran the test. buya.

oh yea by the way do you really think that you are going to be making enough exhaust while doing a compression test that the gasket is going to leak??besides even if your car didn't even have a manifold on it at all it shouldn't make a bit of difference at all cause the exhaust valves would be closed on a compression stroke...im not tryn to be all high n mighty i just dont think people who don't have a clue about engines should be trying to give advice

oh yea and as far as what i think about the wierd numbers is that its most likely something to do with the valves being bent or another thing i have seen causing that is a couple of cracked sleeves but that was on a crvtec and i dont think a b16 is as prone to that...just do a leakdown test so you dont have to guess

you should do a valve adjustment regardless if it "sounds fine". You might have bent something though, if yer lady went from 5th to 3rd on the freeway. A friend of mine blew his motor accidently shifting from 5th to 2nd on the freeway

I would kick my girlfriend out of the car if she went from 5th to 3rd and was trying to go into fourth haha.

BTW, couldn't a leaky headgasket near 2 of those cylinders cause a compression leak???...
