Default Putting a Pioneer stereo in a '97 Prelude

I recently purchased a '97 Prelude. I was previously driving a '95 Civic for which I owned a Pioneer DEH-P5500MP head unit and Pioneer speakers. The wiring harness for the head unit is most likely configured for the in-dash wiring harness of the Civic, since on the Prelude some of the wires would not meet up right if I were to plug them together.

I bought the Prelude with the stereo missing (no factory or other stereo installed, just the stereo harness to hold in the one that I have), so removing the "old stereo" is not a problem.

So, in order to install the Pioneer head unit in my Prelude, the only thing I have to do
is to reconfigure the wires in the head unit portion of the wiring harness to correspond with the wires from the in-dash part? Then I plug them together, plug in that other cord coming from the dash to the stereo, mount the stereo, and it works?

Should I unplug my battery before I do all this? Any other precautions, tools, or guides I should read? I've looked up a chart of the wiring harness for a '97 Honda on installdr.com, does anyone know if this is correct?

I'm sorry if this post doesn't make very much sense.. I'm not well versed in stereo installations and I've had a crazy night that I have yet to recooperate from, so I can only hope I've gotten everything across clearly.

Any help is appreciated, thanks

[edit] Now that I look at it, will I be better off simply buying a snap on wire harness adaptor for the Pioneer than to go through the trouble of all this?

you should be able to plug it straight in without any problems.

They're the same to my knowlege. They're the same across the line to the acuras as well, and They use the same one for the accord. And seings the accord and prelude are very simlar vehicles... you should be good.

Always unplug negative terminal on your battery before proceeding with any electrical work on your car so as not to risk any short circuits.

Here is a great site with tons of info:
