any info on how to install this thing

I have never heard of that ic. I was hoping to find an install install on a wrx. I want an fmic that will not require cutting my bumper support. This looks like it may be the ticket

Looks like you need some mandrel bent tubing and silicone hoses

 

They're popular because they will leave enough clearance without cutting the actual metal bumper. I'm not sure if you have to cut the bumper cover, but if you do it would look cool as hell, because it will fill the entire mouth of the bumper. Just drill two holes into the metal bumper, and get some bolts/nuts with lock washers from your local hardware store.

 

Here's mine on my EM1...



I just drilled 2 holes, put 2 bolts in and that was it. No cutting of the bumper support.

No need to hack apart the bumper...keep it sleeper style...

I did a search of the site. I have not found dyno numbers for this ic yet. Their site claims 350whp. It seems possible based on the size. But I need to see dynos to believe anything.

 

For god's sake guys, please buy a taller intercooler. That core has a really shitty ratio of height to flow area, you're going to see a lot of pressure drop.

 

Measured 1 Psi of pressure drop across intercooler, there really is no room for anything taller on an EF without MAJOR modification.

i got a johnny racecar 6" and painted it black.. soo stealthy.. def a great intercooler for the money

6 incher with a HUGE piece cut out of my bumper support (torch cut) and trimmed the inner grill

 

I'm loving mine, it fit great after modification on the stock bumper, check my sig for pics and it still fits great after a little modification on the wings west front end.

 

if they flow check the ic's, the stats should be legit... right?

1 psi of pressure drop is not something to be proud of. My stock DSM SMIC has 1 to 1.5 psi of pressure drop, with 300 horsepower of airflow through it.

A good core will have less than half a psi of pressure drop.

We had no problem getting a 8" tall core on an EG, I don't see what you would have such a problem with your car. If the bumper is in the way, it's time do to some modifications. You don't want to give up that much performance, do you?

I have no problem with legitimate discussions, as you can see from my last reply. I love to talk about the best way to get something to work.

I do have a problem with douchebags who think they can prove people wrong without any kind of information.

 

could you not measure the boost, taking your vacuum line and tap it inline AFTER the IC, to get the pressure after the drop. Thus, you turbo would actually be pumping out more and conphensate for the pressure drop???

It really depends how they are flow tested. Ratings like "good to XXX horsepower!" are a bit absurd, because that doesn't really mean... anything. What you really need to know is cooling capacity (versus airflow through the core, and across the core) and flow rates compared to pressure drops.

Not many companies publish this information, I'm afraid.

i agree with you on alot of points, but an 8" on a EG is ALOT easier to fit than on a EF.
