engine swap: how much should i look to get/ pay
ok, i have a 1999 Si with the stock motor with only 37k on it,
id like to upgrade to a gsr motor.
now, how much should i look to get for my b16a and what are gsr motors running these days?

why not?
i'd look to getting a B18C5 short block, or a B18C1 short block, with a DC header.
this route in my opinon would yield the power you seek, and cut cost down considerably by keeping your head, and just swapping out blocks.

that is for a complete swap. another question is what about just the long block. keep your Y80 transmission or whatever you have. you can get a long block for around $1800-$2200

just build up that MOTOR for turbo
a GSR is going to cost you 3500 only to add 20-30 HP ?</TD></TR></TABLE>
so many people so few minds. it may only add 20-30 "peak" HP, but you need to think about the entire RPM band. displacement is awesome even as little as 200 cc's

yea man, you stock motor is almost as powerful as a b16b, in my opinion there is no need to upgrade engines, too much $$$ for too little horsepower gain, you already have good baseline power to build from, just start modding that beetch up

What do you want to do with the car? Drag it autox it? These are things inquiring minds need to know before dishing out info.

Damn man I allready feel your pain. lol.
Thats what my goal has always been. I want to get into the twelves (corrected sea level) but want it to be an autoxer as well as a reliable daily driver.
First off your car is pretty....well piggy on the weight issue. I just looked up the weight and stock it should be around 2600 lbs. Last year we swapped in the jdm itr engine and it is a great motor. However getting into the 12's n/a is rather expensive with this set-up.
So after alot of thought we decided to go with a k series swap. The engine is a great platform to build on and lots of torque (for a Honda
) Plus the 6 speed tranny is bonus.
Research. Think hard on how much you want to spend. Just look before you leap.
The great thing about building Honda's is you can generally retrieve any initial cost of a swap later down the road. For instance we purchased a couple of itr engines for 4200.oo each and sold them instantly (actually I still have to pull mine) for 4500.00. Now these are more complete than when we bought them ie chipped ecu, wiring harness, new timing belt and what not but the loss was negligible.
Good Luck.

This part I highly disagree with.

arent gsr motors 170hp...
vs the 160hp si
yeah you'll have more torque with the gsr..
but it weighs more too.
big FAT waste of money time and effort if you ask me.
dont swap the motor unless you are going to get a large upgrade.
as said before, you could build it up for turbo.. and turbo it.
but if you are going to pul lthe motor you could go built N/A
as suggested before get a GSR shortblock(just the lower block), and re-use your tranny, and head. which are actually both really good,
and add some better interanals to the setup,
it'd be much faster than just sticking in a gsr

Your A2 only have 37K, why would you want to swap it out? For all the $$$ you spend to swap in a GSR, why don't you use it to build the A2....

Ditto. Build the A2, you would waste lots of time and money to swap for a small increase in HP, go Turbo it is worth the cost and FUN to drive!
There are plenty of good reasons to swap; the largest being because it's what you want to do. It really depends mostly on what you want. Take a look at any dyno of a b16 vs a b18 and see for yourself why it's a good idea. And do not purchase a complete swap for your car. You can get a shortblock for a very reasonable price if you shop around and that's all you would need. It would be nowhere near $3500. However, you might want to try a few mods on your motor first. A nice header and cams should be fun and won't require you to remove the motor. Good luck either way!
