Default 93 accord - error 41

Hi all,

I think I had posted about this before, but the posts seem to be gone. I will detail the full history.

I have a 93 accord EX. The first problem I started having was a slight idle problem and a small, short hesitation when taking off from a stop. That existed alone for about 3 weeks. Then, a large amount of hesitation started throughout the entire RPM range.

I took it to a "tune up" shop and they replaced the entire secondary ignition (didn't help).

I checked the error, it was a 41. I came on here (I think) and was advised that it was the O2 sensor. I replaced the O2 and the large hesitation was gone along with the error code. However, the small hesitation remained.

I came back here. I was told it was likely the EGR valve was clogged. While waiting (3 weeks) for an ex-Honda mechanic that works with my dad to have some free time to have a look at it (I couldn't tell how much trouble it was and the small hesitation was not bad), I started getting the large hesitation again and the error code. However, this time, when the check light came on, the system seemed to go into open loop and run rich, but without hesitation.

So, today, he got time. He clean the completely clogged valve and it now idles smooth and the initial hesitation is gone completely. However, that did nothing for the error or the large hesitation.

Now the confusing part. He tells my dad that a 41 is some transmission solenoid and it is just not shifting right. Not that I doubt the guy, but my advice here has been dead on so far and last time I said 41, the O2 fixed it, temporaritly at least. Plus, the hesitation seems to span across shifts.

So, does anyone know what the 41 is and could it be that not cleaning the EGR in fact caused the new O2 to go bad in just a few weeks?

Thanks.

I had hesitation problems under load, and it turned out to be my igniter module located in my distributor. This also affected the car at idle.....I got the following info for you from searching honda engine codes on Google.com:

Code 41
Primary Oxygen Sensor - Heater
circuit malfunction

Mine runs great under load. It is under light load like in parking lots that I have trouble.

Thanks for the info. I google my brain out with little help.

Sounds like an electrical problem like the TPS sensor or an o2 sensor or what maroon accord said.

hmm i had the 41 code and replace the o2 sensor and it went away. i would also check you spark plugs and make sure there pushed all the way on. that has caused a problem for me before with hesitation
