2000 model S2000 *faulty?*
Is there a fault in the clutch or pressure plate with this year? When you downshift the clutch pedal vibrates. I'm looking to buy a s2000 from a private owner with 44,600 and the price is at 18,500. Thanks
The 2000 s2000 has a faulty clutch disk. The springs on the disk vibrate when the engine is winding down. The vibration is most prevalant between 40,000 and 30,000. To feel the vibration, wind the car up to 50,000 and lightly press down on the clutch pedal. If the car is has the problem, the vibration will be very noticable in the clutch pedal.
I had the problem in mine. At the time I thought I had a loose exhaust system (it was that bad). The car was just out of warranty so Honda did a disk replacement for me.
Honda has a service bulletin out on this issue. The bulletin # is:
00-054. Your local dealership can provide more info.

30,000-50,000, wow! You mean 3k rpm-5krpm, on deceleration.
Tip for the buyer, if this problem hasn't been fixed on the '00 model you are looking at, pass it up and look for another. The clutch pedal will vibrate if there is pressure on it as if you had slightly depressed it before clutch engagement.
