ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. - SCS-3 - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Honda Tuning Magazine All Motor at the NHRA Summit Sport Compact Drag Racing Series, 4th Annual Nitto Extreme Performance NHRA Sport Compact Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Left Lane: Scott Kelly Runs 10.569/123.85, Now #1
Right Lane: Ken Scheepers Runs 10.910/121.02, Now #2
5:07 p.m. The clouds have gathered over the track late this afternoon, and there is some rain in the forecast, but none of the dreaded "R" stuff has fallen. Conditions are almost perfect for our first round of All Motor qualifying.
Scott is running the motor named "Big Earl" this weekend, the team broke the crankshaft on their main engine while dyno testing recently.
Kelly spun the tires at the starting line, but lead this pair from start to stripe. Scheepers may have had a problem at the top end.
Left Lane: Scott Mohler Runs 10.358/130.95, Now #1
Right Lane: Eric Aguilar Runs 10.501/124.89, Now #2
Mohler's MOPAR team was happy with this run.
Left Lane: Jesus Padilla Runs 9.982/130.76, Now #1
Right Lane: Adam Franzetti No Time, Now #6
Jesus cleaned the table at Moroso two weeks ago, he ran in the nines four times in Florida. Franzetti broke on the burnout and was pushed back so Padilla will have a single.
Another nine and a new track ET record! Jesus is running the Liberty 5 speed, he did a great job rowing through all five gears.
Left Lane: Norris PrayoonotoRuns 10.384/131.57, Now #3
Right Lane: Thomas Borga Runs 14.344/99.97, Now #7
Prayoonoto's speed was a personal best, just 4 mph off the track speed record.
Left Lane: Jeremy Lookofsky Runs 10.324/129.05, Now #2
Right Lane: Dedrick Medina Runs 10.879/123.09, Now #7
Lookofsky drifted over towards the centerline, but never had to lift off the loud pedal. Well past the finish line he suddenly spun the car around and tapped into the wall. There is some damage to the car, the extent is not known at this time. Jeremy is fine.
Right Lane: Leslie Durst Runs 10.634/129.97, Now #7
Leslie's team has been working non-stop since Fontana to rebuild her Honda, it's great to see her Purple race car back in action. Leslie took things very easy at the starting line for this shakedown run, they'll kick things up a few notches in round two. 5:25 p.m.
