dimming headlights
ok i have a problem with my lighting, sometimes when i am driving down the road my head lights will go bright then dim, bright, dim, and sometimes it will stop and sometimes it wont, at first i thought alternator but i thought the alternator goes bad all at once, also wheni have my heat on and the lights get bright the heat blows more, any ideas???
It's gotta be something electrical. Check if possibly the motor's fan is kicking on and drawing alot of power? If not, turn off all power accessories and listen to the idle of the engine to see if it idles smoothely or not... That's probably about the best I can help ya with, but I'm certain someone here knows more than I do...
Well Idle could have a lot to do with the lights dimming. If the idle is low then what happens is the belt that goes around the alternator gear isn't spinning fast enough therefore not creating a strong enough electrical current to charge the battery. If your just going down the right with the pedal at a constent speed and they dim on and off, then its very very possible that its your alternator. I'd advise getting it rebuild or buy a new one. Rebuilding them is cheaper and are like brand new.
