Default replacing rod bolts with ARPs?

well im putting together an LSVTEC and its lookin like everyone is suggesting that replacing the rod bolts with some ARPs wouldnt be a bad idea...hell there only like 35bucks

but i was talking to a friend and he was saying that the rod bolts are pressed in!?!?!?! so i would have to have a machine shop do this mod? if so how much am i lookin at for machining cost? thanks!

when you put new bolts in, they slightly deform the radius of the rod end and in some cases need to be machined back to true...

machine shops usually do this as part of a re-assembly process...

BTW - i never had mine resized when i put ARPs on my B20vtec, and i have had no problems for 15'000miles...

hm so how do you check for trueness so you can decide whether or not to machine? what if you replace bolts on aftermarket rods?

a special tool is required i think, some form of micro-meter...?

the trueness is affected as you are re-torquing the rod ends - in most cases to a higher torque level, but i think this is less of an issue for aftermarket rods? but i am not an expert.

if you are going to reuse rods, a general rule of thumb is to have to rods alignhoned so they are all true to each other. and if you have stock rods you are reusing, spend a little bit of money and have the rods shot peened/polished, r/r'd. this is a little bit of insurance for the bottom end.

have the main journals alignhoned as well.
