MAP sensor problem
Hi, to everybody, I'm new at this forum and I have a problem!
I am having problems with my civic's MAP sensor, the car doesn't make the loss and throws black smoke. I checked the ECU codes and it has code 5 and that's a MAP sensor code. So I took off the MAP sensor from my other Civic and I pluged it in on the car but it keeps doing the same failure! I even changed the Oring that goes between the throttle body and the MAP sensor and it's still the same sh*t!
Any suggestions or comments are welcome! I really need to fix the problem. The car is a 1997 Civic EX with a B16A engine swap and it works with a P72 OBD2 ECU.

if he had them mixed up.. it woudl through Both codes.... I would have to say that its the wiring.. maybe at the ecu... or at the map ..... get back to us...

No, it only shows the MAP code, I changed the ECU, same thing. I'm starting to think it's gotta be the wires! 'Cause I already changed the throttle body seal just in case, and the car can't seem to stay in idle!

i just swapped a b16a2 into my 94 civic and i am having problems with the map sensor also. on the d16 the map sensor was on the throttle body, but on this motor it only has that throttle position sensor and no map sensor, so i need to konw wut to do? HELP!
Code 5 is a MAP sensor vacuum problem, you probably have a break in your hose or you hooked the wrong hoses up. Code 3 is MAP but electrical issue with the MAP sensor.

you need to get a firewall mounted MAP sensor.

Ok, but let me tell you something else, my intake manifold (it's a ITR) has the idle air control valve on the back, tha valve has 2 water hoses and a sensor, I eliminated both hoses 'cause I wanted to cool off the TB,but the sensor remains plugged in!!!, not having these 2 hoses has something to do with my problem???

The vacuum hoses are the important ones that would give you a code 5, but the IACV requires a coolant in hose and an out hose for cooling, and your TB should have it's own coolant hoses as well. I just fixed a Code 5 myself. The map sensor should have a vacuum hose connected directly to your TB, there should be a bronze colored vacuum connector on the top (not sure exactly on an ITR TB) but it should be somewhere on the TB. If it doesn't clear your code after resetting your ECU, there may be some kind of blockage in your TB. Try removing it, clean it with carb cleaner through all the holes, and make sure the butterfly plate seals all around, you shouldnt be able to see but a hairline crack of light around the edges if any. If you have access to compressed air, try blasting it through all the holes to clear it of any excess cleaner. Then put it back on and try it again. That fixed my code 5. Hope this works for you!

Also don't forget to replace your TB gasket with a new one, a code 5 is related to vacuum problems, and you probably won't be able to reuse the gasket if you've had it on for a little while. (shouldn't reuse gaskets anyways).
Pull the MAP vacuum hose while the engine is running and see if you have vacuum to it. You may have tapped ported vacuum, or the hose might be old and collapsed. Black smoke indicates lack of vacuum.
