Salvaged title R's?? I need your help!
I never thought my parents would ever let me get a salvaged title car due to insurance reasons. So I pretty much never thought I would ever own an R. But this local junkyard near me now has a NBP 01 ITR..theft recovery
Completely Stripped, only thing that is on there is 4 lug, 1/4 panels, Non ITR Doors, 94-97 Front and rear bumpers, and a hood. Nothing else. Besides a few under hood parts. So i talked to my parents about getting a car with a salvaged title, they said they do not mind but why? Even my dad, a domestic guy, knows how rare and expensive an ITR is..so they said i could swap all the parts off my 95 LS shell onto the 01 ITR shell...So i called up the junkyard asking them how much and if they could sell it to me, they relied in a cocky tone as that place always does, and they said I can't sell it, i said do you have the title? he said yes, its a salvaged from a theft recovery, he said but i can't sell it. So i said alright, i called up DMV and asked to speak with the people about Titles, i talk to this real cool guy and he said they can sell the car if they have the title. I call the guy at the yard back talking to him telling him that i talked to someone at DMV and they said you can sell it. He said thats nice, im not, i know how much integra's and civic's are stolen.Im don't want anything to come back and make me regret selling it to you. (If another local ITR gets stolen and i swap parts onto that to get $) I said alright whatever. I left it off a few days, i talked to my parents and friends about it. We came to a decision that we could sign a release forum saying after it is sold to me, he has nothing to do with what happened to it, what happens to it, or whatever happened to it. So today i got home from schoool, called my Dad and asked him if he can call them, he said he stopped by there and talked to someone, He said that the guy said "Well im not selling it."...the problem is..I think the guy is just being ignorant and just doesn't want to sell it, If you owned the shop and someone came in offering a certain amount of money, and no one else has wouldn't you want to sell it to make some money?...
I just tried to save another ITR....
They're just becoming stolen and totalled now that they are becoming rarer then they already were..
anyone selling a bare ITR chassis with a salvaged title..please let me know..

what would be the point of buying that shell unless you are gonna put ITR stuff back on it? If you just swap over your LS stuff that doesnt make much sense to me, you will still have an LS, with a more rigid chassis. Unless you do hardcore road racing, I dont think you would even notice a difference. If the guy doesnt wanna sell it, you cant force him to.
Im confused to the max.

really the only thing LS left is the interior. I have GSR suspension. But i would eventully swap it back over to 5 lug over the summer. I have all the 98+ exterior and my doors are already shaved.. the swap i have is a mildly built LS vtec with a b16 tranny.. so its pretty much a type R with...downgrades?
sounds like a lot of work to me just to have an ITR shell. not worth it IMO. I dont understand why the guy wont sell it, but thats his choice. Keep what you have, save the money you would spend on the shell and get b00sted
I'll make you the same deal as the other guy today, 1/2 roasted chicken and a pack of parliaments takes #97.
OnTopic--> Just wait and you'll find something a bit better
There are still a bunch of R's left for you to buy without having to pull your hair out.

Problem depends on the insurance. Mine is insured in NY with no problems, and its been salvaged twice.

i can offer some insite into your problem. i'm from jersey as well and do rebuildables on the side. i've done a couple of integras. and a gsr shell with ls parts.
the reason why the person does not want to sell yout he car is that if the car comes up stolen again or something shady, it does get back to him. if there's any doubt in his mind that you might do something shady with it, like insurance fraud he won't sellyout he car unless you're a dealer. this is pretty common in jersey and new york where people are not willing to sell stripped shells.
also, going through salvage inspection with the ls parts is a pain unless you have every single receipt for the car. they especiallyt scrutinize integras at the inspection sites, at least in my experience and friend's experiences.
you can im me directly if ytou have any specific questions.
my 2000 odyssey is going for inspection on monday morning at 8am in morristown.

thanks for the info. im about a 1/2 hour from morristown. Maybe you can stop by with me and try and help a fellow HT member out with a deal
but wouldn't a release forum hold him back from anything if anything came up?

well, not much i can do to help the situation if the person doesn't want to sell. a release form doesn't really mean much. he probably just doesn't want the added headache. he'd probably rather sell the car for parts to a body shop, etc.
damm you want that shell badly huh. lol Why not just do a roof swap? By the roof from the guy and have a body shop cut yours out and weld on the R roof with no sunroof..... There you have it. No Roof. Bodyshops do it all the time.
dude, thats a lot of work for just the shell like everyone else said, also then your car will be a salvage title and prolly be worth less than if you kept your ls shell. Also, i doubt that you are using your car to the limits that would cause you to need a stiffer itr chassis. If you really needed it you would do it through other means like a cage or something? I dunno, seems liek wayyyyyyyy too much work just keep your LS. This type r craze is unbelieveable
so... your car would be a LS with a type-r shell with a salvage title. you know what the resale on that would be? think about it man, it's not worth it no matter how you look at it.
He wants to you buy it so he can steal it and strip it again. Sign a release? "with whatever happened to it" basically sounds like he had something to do with the first theft of it.
Soundes pretty fishy.
