How to remove Honda installed Audio System
My CD player stopped working after a minor accident, and the insurance company doesnt want to take a look at it.
If I go to a dealership, they are asking for $80 to just remove the CD player unit.
What is happening : I pop in a CD into the 6 CD changer, and the CD player just doesnt play any CD at all. I have tried cleaning unit a number of times, but to no avail.
I would like to take it out myself.
I would appreciate if someone could provide some help on the same.

I want to know how it could be done, coz the honda dealerships are asking for almost 80 bucks for just taking out the audio unit.

if it's a 98-02 accord:
remove the 2 philips head screws below the stereo. (they hold the black trim onto the dash.) the rest of the trim is snapped in, so just yank it loose. there will be some connectors on the back of the trim... unplug these and remove trim. then there will be 2 or 4 screws holding the stereo itself in. remove those, pull the stereo out, unplug the connectors and antenna on the back, and viola...

I have a 2001 Accord EX. It comes with a Honda Factory Installed 6 CD changer.
I had seen one of my friends replace his CD player himself on his Honda Civic 2 years back, and would want to take my chances on the same

Its actually a very simple job. Do it yourself... dont pay $80 to have someone else do a job that you can easily do.

Here are the installation instructions for the 6 disk CD changer on your car:
http://www.handa-accessories.c...e.pdf
With it you can easily remove your old radio, and put a new one in. If you want the exact same thing, you can buy it for $367 from handa-accesories.com, though personally I would put in an Alpine head unit (single disk). In my car (a '99 LX) I have the factory head unit (a tape player, my wife plays tapes for the kids when she is driving), and I put in an Alpine trunk mounted CD changer. To connect the CD changer I had to take the factory radio out (and replace it), it's not a hard job at all.

Forgot one screw behind the upper right A/C vent
Don't want the man busting the dash up.

Sounds like your insurance company is going to pay you for the broken CD changer. The normal price is $458, which is what they would give you, unless they also tack on some money for paying for an installer.
What you can do with this money is to either: (a) buy the same cd changer from handa-accessories and pocket the $90 difference, or (b) pay ~ $75 on top of what they give you and put in this setup:
Alpine CDA 9827 CD/MP3/WMA player & an Alpine CHA S634 trunk mounted CD changer. From Crutchfield, the changer is $299 and the player is $259, though there is a $25 price break if you buy both, so both would run you ~ $535. There are cheaper places than Crutchfield, of course, so this would be on the higher end, just remember that Crutchfield will give you a harness and a kit, though I don’t think you need a kit (not sure, is the 6 disk indash player 1-din size?)
