Hi guys,
I am in the process of building up my B18C and I getting ready to slap on the head onto the block. Right now I have the block sitting on a spare tire, but I need the motor to be level. I would have gotten an engine stand, but I will also be mating up the tranny just shortly after assembling the head.
I just wanted to know if the oil pan will be fine if I let it sit on my floor. The motor is sitting in my bedroom (no garage) and the entire bedroom is carpeted, with several layers of thick heavy duty plastic and a large piece of cardboard. This area has served as my makeshift engine assembly area. But now that I am about to put the head onto the block I want it all level.
So anyways, do you guys think that the oilpan will be fine? or do you guys think I should put down some more padding or say screw it and get an engine stand (which I wont use for a long time).
EDIT: oh yah, I would have asked this in the all-motor or hybrid forum but it isn't "tech" enough. And I think the folks over in the Integra forum must not like me or something, because they hardly ever answer my questions.
hehehe
TIA

I'll probably put an additional block of wood under the part of the oil pan that raises up so it stays even. I dont think that motor will fall forwards or backwards, sideways is what I'm worried about.
I picked up the shortblock and gead from a fellow H-T member in San Jose and he helped me lift it into the car. However when I got home I had to lift the block ouf of my trunk all by myself. I have one of those large leather executive-type office chairs. I took the back and armrests off and I used the seat as a dolly to push the shortblock around on. I still had to lift and move the motor 4 times to get up some stairs and out of the trunk. My arms and back were sore for a week after lifting the shortblock by myself. Luckily I live in an apartment by myself and on the first floor. When it comes time to install the motor I will just wheel a engine hoist into my apartment to move the motor.

if the head is off the block then make sure you spray some WD-40 on the cylinders so it won't rust. and wrap it with some garbage bags and tape it shut.

I dont think anyone wants to see another 40 page thread about how somebody built a motor in their basement and cant get it up the stairs.
