Default How NOT to balance wheels

FINALLY got my shipment from Tire Rack today (wednesday of last week "yessir, we'll ship it out 'today'" ... heard the same thing every day until this past tuesday)... then I open them up:

3x 1/4 oz. weights on the spoke (must be a new trend):

4x 1/4 oz. weights on the carboard packing material:

Other weights scattered randomly about the rim wells.

Thankfully they are reimbursing me for the balancing that I had done at a local shop tonight ... unfortunately by that time it was too late to get any pics of them on the car in the light. Hopefully tomorrow I will have the chance.

Sweet rims...can't figure out what hallucinatory drug the person who balanced them was on. If I were into such things, I'd call him for some.

..lesse, the rims got hot, and the weights fell off? Most racers put duct tape on the stick on weights so they won't come loose and fall off like that.

They probably didnt clean the spot where the weight went with alcohol or some other cleaner before installing. Pretty crappy quality control.

Its good they will back up their reputation and reimburse you though.

The Tire-Rack just moved into a new building, twice the size of the old one. They also have doubled the amount of mounting & balance machines so they are training new employees. Lucky you

at least they didnt scrape up your wheels when they mounted the tires.. like my mechanic did to my GSR swirls

its not THAT bad.. we couldnt find anyone who was wiling to sell just one GSR wheel. so he agreed to give me 5 free oil changes (synthetic) $30ea.

morale of your story.. get your wheels mounted at a dealer or someplace professional.

What's the weight of them? Are they relatively light or heavy? It's 17", right?

thanks for the compliments! I'll have pictures of them on the car Saturday... (to the earlier poster, yes they're OZ Superleggera's) ... according to the wheel weight database link that floats around, these 17x7's are .2 pounds lighter than the USDM 15x6 ITR wheels.
