J's Racing Intake
I just wanted to know what you guys thought of the J's Racing intake.
How does it sound?
How is the performance?
I'm in the market for an intake and I wasn't sure what to go with. Any insight will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for the help!

It seems to show more gains than a lot of other intakes.
I gathered from a recent conversation about intakes that the community seems to prefer the Comptech Icebox, Mugen, and J's Racing intakes, not necessarily in that order.
Note that in his testing (https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=848216), ChrisN decided that he thinks the Mugen intake is better than the J's Racing intake.

I see you're in DC, but I do not recognise your screen name.
Who are you, and what kind of testing are you talking about?

I had J's earlier on. It does perform well, specially between 5-6k rpm it's strong. Sound's nice also.
Only problem is it has no heatshield. It REALLY suffers when the engine gets warm. Even when your are tracking the car at high speeds it suffers cause it draws hot air from the engine bay. This fact does not show up on the dyno!
So I sold it and bought Mugen

I just want to point out that this is my own opinion, nothing more.
As my dynos were 2 years apart, and it was not the same dyno. Both dynojets, yes. Weather was different, twice as much mileage on the car, different (yet VERY similar headers)... hard to compare.
The Mugen feels best by far. My TQ curve in that graph seems to indicate the power is being maintained through a wider RPM range (see torque from vtec engagement on up, compare to other graph), and the HP curve shows the difference quite well also.
But... I didn't compare on the same day - so who knows what the real answer is.
I would be willing to bet that the Mugen will out perform the J's - but you won't make a bad choice if you choose the Icebox, J's or Mugen. All very worthy.

you should've just made one.. not too difficult with a piece of sheet metal.. it's my plan..
I'm still searching for a J's knockoff to buy..

In regards to the J's intake, are there any studies that show that the tube design actually improves flow? Any studies that would show if there is better flow at all rpm's or just a specific rpm range? And if it does have the optimal tube design, i would think the overall best thing to do is to have a J's intake tube with a custom built heatshield/cold air pickup that is similar to the Mugen.
It is not to increase flow but the theory behind is that it "stores" air inside the chamber thus that is what gives it the great throttle reponse.
A few have custom made boxes or cut outs paired with ducts to the J's and from what I hear, it helps a bit.

I love my J's intake.
Had it for almost a year. No problems.
Because its carbonfiber it stays very cool.
Good throttle response.
Most people are like "WTF is that?"
and it make very nice VTEC noises.
Call Leo@PasswordJDM.com to get one

most carbon fiber materials have low heat transfer properties, so yes, it keeps the charge air cool by keeping the heat out. That's why a J's intake + a good heat shield/cool air pickup should be a good combo.
