Default Input JRSC on a ZC

I dont see too many of this engine config, maybe because the supercharger is more than a B16 swap, but... I was thinking of getting a zc swapped ef hatch, and since its got the zc in it anyway, why not supercharge it? has anyone done this reading this post, if so let me know what you think, will it beat a b16 rex? or hatch? thanks for any input (hopefully its positive )

Jackson sells a ZC blower listed as 86-89 Integra. Its a Bigger blower with a D Manifold.. I dont think there is a issue the ZC it does not sit that much closer to the Firewall than the D16

yes someone does have one of these setups!! go to thezcr.com and ask crxrocks about it. he has a twin cam zc with a jrsc kit in it. jrsc actually makes kits for zc. just go on their site and do a search on zc

For the amount of $$$$ I would get one
No way of Cooling intake charge other than Expensive Water injection

I say go Intercooled Turbo kit and you'd be happier

But doesnt the supercharger run off of intake? Intake should be cooler than exhaust right? Plus the advantage of boost off the line as opposed to turbo spool is what i like.

A supercharger runs off the crank with a pulley & belt. Regardless of what you're using to do it, any time that you compress air, it creates heat. A turbo allows you to cool the air coming out of the turbo after it has been heated by passing through an intercooler. A centrifugal supercharger will allow you to do the same thing by using an aftercooler (basically works the same, you can have air/air or water/air versions). A roots-type like the Jackson cannot cool the air since it is sitting directly on the motor. It's basically like if you took a turbo and attached it directly to the IM, there's no where for the air to be cooled. That said, a roots-type is a good choice for mild-boost applications like street cars and autocross cars. For big power gains, you need to go turbo or centrifugal s/c. The turbo is then going to be the better choice for efficiency. With any supercharger, you have to use power to create power. Since a turbo runs off the exhaust flow, you're not really using any engine power to run it. That's why you see more people going turbo now than anything else, it's easier to get more power out of it.

Don't take this as saying "don't get the jackson". I'm considering one myself since I'm not looking for a ton of power (150-160 whp tops out of my z6) and I'm primarily going to use it during autocross where too much power would hurt me in a lightweight crx.

Well thats what I want a relatively fast and reliable street car, obviously Im not very fluent in turbo or sc tech, I know some basics, but not enough to put a turbo on a car and drive it everyday, Ive read up on the Jackson, and from what Ive read its pretty user friendly. Now do I get one of these or spend the money on B16? decisions decisions But thanks for that info it does help. Keep it coming I appreciate it

I've drove a few JRSC cars, and everyone I've ever drove I've been very unimpressed. For the amount of money you spend you can easily create your own turbo kit for half the price and make more power, and have real fuel management. A ZC turbo tuned well running 10psi can put down over 200whp and smoke the **** out of NA b16's

Heres a video of my buddy (filiming) its a 12sec ZC racing me (in the red crx) Twin turbo ls/vtec.

http://www.nw1320.com/media/local/HTmeet.wmv

As you can see he pretty much hangs with me.

</TD></TR></TABLE> Dude kick *** video, I loved the speedo shot, looked almost like a crotch rocket speedo, Everett eh? Im from Port Orchard, was the footage in Seattle area, the highway looks familiar. Well I really would like to take a ride in a SC civic or rex, and a b16 rex, again I know nothing about turbo tuning etc. so I think it would be a bigger pain in the *** for me.

I would just go with a turbo setup. Cheaper and better power.. and with good turbo sizeing up can "almost" get rid of lag

Where do you get cheaper? After all is said and done I think a turbo cost more than 2500 bux, maybe if you made a turbo kit, but that takes know how, which I dont, plus factor in the tuning and from what i hear turbos can get finicky on muggy days, hot days etc, the Jackson racing is way more user friendly from what Ive read, Im the type of person who needs user friendly.

And trust me there is a ton of BS about the jrsc out there.. Hell if you want to buy a "kit" You can pick up a greddy SOHC kit for less than 2000. Most SOHC kits (zc is a d motor) are cheaper. And any FI your going to have issues all and all your still forcing air in to the engine so you can have the same issues with a JRSC as a turbo.. And if you can pick up a JRSC for less that 2500 new your doing good

Either way its always gonna be easier to tune a turbo. A supercharger is limited in what you can do, but it is very user friendly. Last I saw those JRSC are what, 3 grand? You can make a decent custom turbo kit from that and learn a hell of a lot more.

if u had the time and know-how u could prob make a turbo kit for easily half the price of the sc kit and be much happier in the end. but if ur not looking for huge power gains maybe the 3k jrsc will suit u fine.
