Default HELP me choose cams for h23

alright guys....here is the situation....

the ol' h23 is running very well so im going to hang onto it a little bit longer. ive got the bolt-ons taken care of and am looking into cams. the only choices i have so far are JG, WebCam, and Gude. the shop told me to stay away from gude. they said that jg makes good cams for sohc engines, but their dohc stuff wasnt anything to brag about. they said that my best bet was webcam as they have had the best gains and luck with them. i would however have to get the springs/retainers from jg since webcam doesnt have them for the h23. anyone here have any comments/suggestions on any of these cams? im looking for something that is going to give me the best NA power with idle no higher than 1200 and i dont want to have to rev to the moon to get the power. i wont rev higher than 7500 at MAX! and that is a high max...id like to stay lower than that if possible.

I have the web cams on my H23 and am not using springs or retainers. They are not race cams like the 301 from JG so they are not needed. All of the power is below 7 grand so it is safe. I can only say good things about the cams, they give decent reliable power at a small cost not only in money but in lower rpms also. If you have any more questions let me know. I don't have any dyno figures to tell you about but I do drag the car and can tell you I dropped 4/10 of a second in the 1/8 of a mile and gained 3 mph. I don't know what that translates into the quarter but I will say its worth it. Our non-vtecs need all the help they can get in the upper range.

anyone have any guesses at what shaving .4 off in the 1/8 mile would be equal to in the 1/4?

I am shifting at 7grand. I have been running 9.8 on a crappy track. New model preludes typically run 10.5 there. I have most of the bolt-ons and the cams with gears of course. You have got to get gears with the cams. Also you would well to get a fuel riser to bump up the fuel a little to compensate for the extra lift in the cams.

just another option for you.i have the gude cams with the head package and have had no problems.i know lots of people have had bad experiences with gude and i agree that their customer service sux but the performance of my motor is great.with just the head package and bolt ons the car went from 9.8 in 8th to 9.1 in the 8th(15.2-14.2 in the quarter)thats a second drop for around 1500 dollars.after some tuning and slicks the car went 13.9(cant remember 8th time).I went with jg for the bottom end build but have not run the car yet with new setup.these cams pull hard from 4000-7000.just wanted to pass along some info.

i have a h23 head but now have a h22a jdm block.it has been bored and the rods have been lengthened.the blocks are the same as far as outer dimensions go.joel out at jg got me the block because my stock h23 block was screwed due to a spun bearing.its a weird setup but it works great and its cool to show people a type s block in my car.i see you are from tuscaloosa(roll tide)i am originally from montgomery and still go there every week to check on my house and see my fiancee.maybe all of us alabama luders could get up sometime.

SiLude93 - On my old Si with (with stock cams) the best cam gear settings were +3 in, -1 ex. I don't know if these would be right for your cams or not, but it may be worth trying.

it shows $295 on their site. no way it could be $600 unless they put lead in the box before shipping it.
