lol! I just took my wiper arms off 2 days ago to sand and re-paint them black. Once you get the nuts off, just flip them up and wiggle 'em good. Mine were pretty darn finicky, but they eventually gave in...
Edit: Oh yeah, make sure when you put them back on, you put the right one back on the right and the left on the left...kinda important.... (speaking from experience of course...)

damn..not to sound like a biter but..i also re-did my wiper arms black last weekend...Duplicolor Trim paint owns!!!! i had no problems with pulling mine off but ive heard they can be stubborn..looks so much better back to black than faded *** silver..woot
and..definetly make sure you put them back on the correct side and at the same height/angle as before..my wiper blades had left a water mark on my windshield and that helped

Just to add. Try some WD40 on the studs.
And besides making sure you put them back on the sides you took them off of.
Make SURE you really tighten them down to specs or in a downpour you won't have any wipers. The splines on the studs are what keep them from flopping around uselessly. (ask me how I know this

Something is clearly wrong..okay..im talking about my front whipers..NOT my hatch.. I took the nut off and pulled intill i could pull no more... they are NOT coming off...ARG...
Try wiggling them. Use one hand to pull up at the base, where they attach to the pinion shaft, while moving the other (rubber) end, in a sweeping motion (as if the wipers were turned on). And try some WD40 or liquid wrench on the stud.
I remember mine being really tough the first time, too.
