Height and motorcycle riding comfort
I'm 6'3" and I am wondering if it is comfortable for someone of my height to ride a bike ( thinking of starting out with a 250cc ninja ) suggestions for other bikes would be appreciated. Still in the process of determining whether to ride a bike or not; will be a college student this fall in Boston. Wondering if it is a smart choice to buy a bike to go around there or not. Input is appreciated!
Anybody can ride a motorcycle. Size doesn't really matter if you know how to operate it. I'm on the opposite end of your extreme, a tad too short.
But I can handle my bike fine. Took a little bit getting used to, but I got the hang of it.
Comfort, IMO, is relative. Your definition of comfort may be the exact opossite of mine. Look into a bike that you feel the most comfortable on and start from there. New or Used, it doesn't matter. I know of several people that have never ridden a motorcycle in their entire life jump on a new sport 600 and learn. It's all in your head. Although I must say, some people aren't made to ride motorcycle mentally and physically. It's not for everyone. Don't do it because everyone else is doing it. Do it because you enjoy it.
g'luck,

riding in boston sucks bigtime. Potholes that fit your entire front wheel at a time and the usual boston drivers in steel caged volvos. I've noticed the domestic, cheap suvs are the worst drivers as a whole. Blazers, explorers, durangos, etc.
I'm 6'3" and I feel really comfortable on my F3. I haven't stepped on many other bikes, so I can't comment about those.
The 5' 100 pound asians will laugh at you because you're huge, but you get to laugh at them when the tip-toe their bike at a stoplight.

Depends if that is 320lbs of muscle mass or fat. You're not going to be able to fit in the seat if you're 320lbs of fat.

I'm around 5'8 140. I can flat foot almost any bike except some sport tourers. I think I'm the perfect size for riding.
To the guy who is 6'3 320... You'd be better off buying a Geo Metro cause a 750 won't pull your fat ******* *** any faster.
Oh and 600 750 1000 are basically the same frame and everything just a larger engine so one really isn't more comfortable. Somthing that fits larger riders is the Hayabusa, ZX-12, not that those are bikes for beginners.

Bikes from Japan are generally sprung for guys who weigh 150-165. So you're a bit lighter than ideal for the bike. Regardless of how light or heavy you are, a motorcycle will have plenty of speed. The power-to-weight ratio remains unreal, unmatched in virtually all cars.

The frames of the 600/750/1000 are different. Enough to make it implausible to swap engines. And there are slight differences in their seating position. The best way to know for sure is to sit on the bike.

Yeah that's why I said basically. I know the seat on the 1000 is a tad higher than the 600. I'm just saying, it's not noticible enough for a beginner to get on a 1000 just because he thinks it'll suit him better.
I'd say a VFR800 is a nice choice for a big guy though. They're about as powerful as a 600 but a lot bigger and more comfortable.

Haha, there's nothing wrong with that!
I'm 5 foot nothing and I can manage alright.. But I'm screwed if I lay my bike down, because there's no way I could lift that much weight.
My ex is 6'7", and he had some discomfort riding, he said it hurt his back, I don't know if that would be attributed to the fact that he was freakishly tall and had back problems, or because it's just more uncomfortable to be at that kind of an angle when you're taller.
...as long as you're not riding a 50 or a mini bike I think you should be fine though.
